I got my new rat babies today!!!! After having to put Mouska to sleep because the vet determined she’d had a stroke and overall her quality of life wouldn’t have been good due to having to be confined because of her alligator rolling and potential for further injury, Meeska was the priority. It was clear she was depressed without Mouska, but we both had to wait until the rattery owner was back from her vacation before I could adopt a new buddy for her. Turns out, she got two new buddies because when I saw these two little girls I couldn’t go without both. They have matching little crescent moons on their foreheads. They don’t have names yet, but when I saw the little crescents I immediately thought of Sailor Moon so once my migraine is gone, I’ll be hunting around for names for them. They’re the sweetest babies and are already acclimating well. They’re a little slow and hesitant around Meeska because she’s a few months older and is bigger than them, because I got her in December when she was around 8 weeks old but she’s excited about the babies. She’s careful and gentle. She watches them and checks on them, I’ve caught her cleaning them and preening them and babying them a couple of times. She’s also giving them their space to get used to being in a new place while keeping an eye on them. Of course I think she’s a little hesitant too, because they’re new and they’re not Mouska but I think things are gonna be okay because I can already see a difference in her.
