Did you kNoW?
Stimulants affect people with ADHD differently because our brains are not processing the naturally produced dopamine as effectively as a neurotypical brain would. The stimulant helps boost us to a 'normal' feeling level.
This is why when a neurotypical person takes ADHD medication they have extreme bursts of productivity and write their thesis in one night or I dunno remodel their house, while an ADHD person might just take them and be like 'Hooray I managed to wash my clothes and hang them up in the same day!'
Jokes on them though, because I can drink coffee at 11pm and sleep right after. Take that society.
So having adhd is like, if i look away from this thought, its not gonna be there when I look back.
Being medicated is like, omg the thought is still there? What the hell?
And its a lil bit quieter. Not loads, but I'm only on the starting dose before I go to 30mg
I've been on new adhd meds for a while now and so far we've got
massive hyperfocus (on the wrong thing)
a solid steady sleep cycle (in the wrong way)
who needs food or water ever
more massive hyperfocus (on the wrong thing)
body eepy body need 7 nap body will feel good after 7 nap trust me
horny
the decision has been made

Being on ADHD meds that are only kinda working is like having a dog and a cat in your brain.
The dog wants to go on a walk, it wants to go do something.
The cat is saying no, we're going to do this because we can't go on a walk right now.
But the dog NEEDS to go on a walk, or even just be given a task!
And that cat is still saying no! We have to do something else.
And now you feel like you're panicking but you're also not.
:D
You guys, this is crazy. I finally got an official ADHD diagnosis and started on medication this week to help with it. It's INSANE how much my motivation and anxiety has changed! 🤯 Like I actually cooked a meal yesterday instead of going for the frozen ones or waiting till my mom started one. This is significant because I am over 30 and while I have the mortgage on the home we live in, she's been helping me get down at least 1 cooked meal a week despite her having the same chronic disease I have.
I don't remember the last time I acutally initiated cooking something that wasn't a pack of ramen.
AND I actually did chores without planning them ahead! I know it sounds insane but like if I wanted to do i chore, I had to think about it for 3 days before it happened. But I just passed the annoying corner cupboard we have that won't turn without a significant amount of force, and I said, "huh, lemme fix that."
Is this how neurotypical people actually live? Without the planning and agonizing and stressing before actually doing?
I'm still working on the not forgetting to do stuff if I dont do it in the moment but this is like a 200% improvement for me.
I think I'm gonna go cry happy tears now!
Side note, my creativity is going bananas too and I'm mad cause I cant do my digital art due to my replacement power cord not getting here until Monday lol
Anyways, just wanted to put this here cause if any of you are thinking about getting tested, do it. And don't stop at the short computer test. Tell them you want the whole long set of them cause the computer one is crap ( one of my psychiatrists and the neurological psychologist who tested me were not pleased with how those tests get used as the only diagnostic tool lol)
