I like to think that Y. Bakura's love for meat is born of the two souls that make him up. Starting with the TKB half. To him the meat of thousands of years later is super high quality. Large portions of it can be stored away and saved with refrigerators to be enjoyed whenever he wants. There are new ways to process and cook it. So many seasonings and sauces to create new flavors and textures. He's amazed at how the concept of meat dishes have evolved and he wants to eagerly put everything in his mouth (or Ryou's mouth). Then we go to Zorc; an entity with godly and demonic qualities. Almost all dark entities in religious or mythological concepts have been known to partake of raw flesh, mostly of the innocent or sacrificial variety. To them its a source of increasing strength as devouring the flesh in many texts also contributes to devouring the soul. It also wasn't out of necessity for nourishment. It was to gain and maintain power or for the pure pleasure of it to know they were getting certain reactions from mortals depending on the circumstances of them eating their loved ones. Now mash those two souls together and you get a symbiotic relationship that craves meat in any form (potentially even cannibalism if you wanna write that. I'm certainty not stopping you. ◡̈ ) because the cuts of meat today are just as satisfying as a human sacrifice and its just as equally enjoyable when cooked. Bonus observation: Ryou eats a TON of food like he's feeding all three of them (himself, TKB, and Zorc.) I can' t imagine the ravenous push and pull with internal dialogue he gets when he's given a menu and the option to order anything he wants at no expense to himself.
Meat and gutz
You know, in general I feel like Sanderson does a great job of thinking through his world building and making logical choices, and trying to rationally explain why the really cool stuff exists (like Shardblades being the stock Big Improbable Fantasy Swords but there actually being a reason why they're like that), but the one thing I'm calling bull on is the chickens. I think he just did that because he wanted his characters to be comedically unfamiliar with chickens. You're telling me humanity decided to take pigs into every settlement on this horrible barren storm world, but not chickens? Pigs, which are a. Smart and b. Onery and which would require fences made of stone to keep them from running away, heavy and durable enough not to blow away in the winds, vs. chickens, which are a. Small, and b. Easy To Care For, which can be taught to return to their roost after free-ranging everywhere and eating every tiny cremling and bit of plant life they can find? Yeah I don't buy that. He knew the characters needed leather and he thought the chicken thing was funny. And you know what? He's right. He can have this one. But just this once.
