Welcome to a Splash of Faith
Welcome to our universe. Two girls, two cities, one goal: to have a splash of faith in every aspect of life. What exactly does this mean? Well, I think itâs the brutally honest reflection of our lives; at times overly complicated, yet blissful. The expression captures our humble acknowledgement that our lives are not perfect, but we made the conscious choice to have a splash of faith in everything we do and everywhere we go. It is our pledge to get right back up when life punches you in the face and say âwell you hit like a girl.â Â
Before we get into more detail, letâs tell you a little about usâŚ
My name is Kelsie and Iâm a mid-20âs kid living in the beautiful and charming city of Boston.  I'm a passionate and stubborn individual with a love for music and doodling (I'm not good, don't ask to see anything). I cook up a storm and use my roommates as guinea pigs for new, healthy, recipes. I'm loud and outgoing, originally from the South and use that excuse to fit in some fried chicken and maybe a little bit of an accent sometimes. Sally, aka my partner in crime, lives in a city she likes to call âeccentricâ â New York. Growing up as the oldest of three girls in an immigrant family, and born with her fair share of fervor and stubbornness, she has never been afraid of speaking up or chasing after what she wants. As all our friends would agree, however, she is one of the most genuine people I know. They will also agree that she sometimes says things that make us go âwhat are you saying?â and question where she has been all her life â wait, right, in another country.
Two of us met at our first job right out of college. We were pretty much immediately drawn to each other because weâre both stubborn, strong willed and ready to conquer anything you throw at us. Even though we donât work together anymore, we both lead high-demand, high-stress lives because of the career paths weâve decided to settle into. I work in Healthcare Consulting for a Big 4 firm and Sally is off tackling marketing strategy for a multinational investment management company. So, ya know we sleep a lot, relax often and rarely ever miss a social event (read: sarcasm). Even through all the traveling, deadlines and beautiful workings of being the low men on the totem pole, weâve done a pretty good job of continuing to push ourselves and take risks, explore, and do things we want before it might be too late. Thus, Splash of Faith was born.
So...what brings us here? Why start this? What the hell do we have to share? The way we see it weâre all lost and trying to figure it out, and if youâre sitting there shaking your head and disagreeing with us, youâre lying. Every second of every day holds a whole lot of unknowns, and we both used to be the kind of people who would anticipate what each one would be. Sally moved straight to New York after graduating from college and started her ânew adventureâ in a tiny, dungy, 5th floor walk-up apartment she found on Craigslist. This apartment had no living room because the owner had basically turned a one-bedroom into a (Iâm pretty sure itâs illegal) four-bedroom apartment to sublet to clueless newbies like Sally. Oh, and she also walked into her room one day to find a hole as big as a manhole on her ceiling and a pool of water on her floor because a the roof couldnât hold up the snowstorm. As for me, I wasnât so quick to move away from the comfort of my family and home-made dinner. But about a year and a half ago that all changed when I decided to put a transfer in at my job, find roommates, sign a lease and head to Boston. A little impulsive? Maybe, but it turns out it was a great move for me. I didn't quite know where I was going, but I knew my small town wasn't going to get me there.
I don't know about you, but it amazes me how much we change from year to year. Those two girls that moved to Boston and New York not too long ago, were pretty lost souls. Somewhere along the line, we both lost everything we stood for and tried to make ourselves be these pictures of what we thought we were âsupposedâ to be. Successful in the corporate world, thin and always put together (and for me, perfect relationship with my high school best friend)... it was exhausting. It took taking a step back to see that we didn't even know who we were anymore. Thankfully, this year weâve been able to put a lot of things in perspective when it comes to what we like, what we don't, where weâre going and what we want in our future. Moral of the story, our lives are pretty NUTS. Weâre living out our wildest dreams and taking no prisoners. Nights out in the city - bottle service, awkward guys, running into the best and worst of old flames, broken shoes and pictures you never want to ever see the light of day. Figuring out this whole dating deal (WOOF!), and laughing at the ridiculous stories they make. Traveling to different cities for work every week (for Sally, working/studying 12-15 hours a day) and trying to figure out a personal life to balance. Falling in love with fitness and healthy living. Rooming with crazy girls who make our every day pretty wonderful, making mistakes, learning and growing into someone we are pretty proud of.  Turns out, we are both good at falling flat on our ass and laughing about it. Â
Splash of faith; so what does that EXACTLY mean to us? Weâve both always been pretty faithful girls. Even in our most anxious moments, we had a full belief that everything happens for a reason and it will all work out as it should in the end. I guess we both have a pretty awesome set of parents and amazing friends to thank for that.Â
So here begins the written testimony of our splash of faith. We may not be the Kardashian family whose cover stories dominate the newsstand or Nobel prize winners whose genius marked the turn of the century; but we are two brave yet fragile girls, just like you, that are trying to make every moment an extraordinary one. We welcome you to share your stories too and also ask for your feedback and suggestions.Â
