In my track I’m calling pigeons as a metaphor to the people from big corporations who, like pigeons, can be seen as scroungers. These birds rely on people who feed them but they don’t do any good for us or the planet, ‘they just poop’. The ‘pigeons’ (corporation people) feed on the planet without giving out. For example, they produce plastic items because it’s cheap, so they earn a lot of money from that, instead of using the products that are more expensive but take less time to decompose. They don’t care about the planet, only about their own needs. In this video, I wanted to share the effect on the planet by these people. I kept in mind that a lot of changes on Earth are the cause of Earth by itself, that’s why I haven’t included some materials that could show those results, for example the clips about global warming. I have also added clips about wars between people because they seem to love the adrenaline too much to care about the bigger picture which is the fact that we are destroying our planet.
I have included a timelapse video of the star trails that I made by myself. I took pictures of the sky and merged them together, making a timelapse video. I used Adobe Lightroom to edit the pictures and StarStaX software for making a video out of them. I took those pictures when I came out of town in Poland. The reason why this clip is at the end of the video and there’s text saying ‘what’s next?’ is because people are evolving. Right now we are using our planet’s resources and but not giving out. In the future, we could be using our universe’s resources and slowly destroying it with our actions. The star trails timelapse should remind us that there is always a bigger picture.
The first 30 seconds are taken from a small documentary on Vimeo about underwater world. The music has a happy atmosphere and that’s why I added some dramatic clips with noise sound as a sarcastic approach. I wanted to show how media portaits our world, not allowing drastic footage for people to see the reality.
The reason on why the smaller footages are in a great quality and the rest of them is not is because of the way i wanted to show the dramatic impact of the planet.
After the first half a minute I made a video using internet resources. As a background I chose beautiful footages of our planet and in the foreground I added clips from various recordings that showed the true ‘beauty’ of Earth and our actions that can be seen as destructive. These clips are placed as squares in the middle for an aesthetic approach.
At the end of the video I included a verse from a film ‘Matrix’. I didn’t use any footage for this moment because I wanted the audience to contemplate on those words and not get distracted.

Final Video
I filmed this video after sunset so it would be dark out and I could move my light source to cast shadows around. I think my final video came out a lot darker than I had anticipated which was largely due to the fact that I wanted to play with light throughout the video and have a lot of contrast - This led to me film at night but without a powerful enough light source I struggled to cast sharp and contrasting shadows like I had intended. I feel this made the video seem a lot muddier and softer making it hard to pick out much detail with any of the more distant shots. I also wanted to incorporate out of focus video into my final piece but with the lack of sharp detail from the poor lighting I believe these shots just exasperated the issue. I think if I were to do this again I may use a tripod for capturing some of the close-up shots where the light source is being moved as I found that when recording them hand-held it made the movement of the shadows less impactful and also made it harder for me to incorporate them into my final edit how I had hoped which was to create ‘tracers’ as well as using chromatic aberration. The fact that I didn’t have a powerful enough light source also stopped me from capturing any footage of light reflecting off the water as I had planned leaving me with not much footage to edit the final video. I think longer, more sustained shots rather than quick clips would’ve benefitted me more and suited the style of video.
