Here's Cody Critcheloe been interviewed by our friends at Amsterdam Lifestyles right before his first gig in The Netherlands!

Amsterdam Lifestyles: Hi Cody, first of all congratulations on your first European tour! We've been following SSION from afar being mesmerized by your witty and catchy music, not to mention your outstanding videos. Can you tell us more about your band members and who's going to be with you on stage?

Cody Critcheloe (SSION): On this tour it's just me, a drummer and a synth player. Aaron Steele on drums and Nick Weiss from Teengirl Fantasy on synth. We've arranged the songs a bit differently so it sounds better for this live set-up. I guess it's sort of stripped down but we usually don't tour with a ton of people as it's way too expensive. Oh and there will also be video projections which add A LOT to the overall show experience.

Dancing is a big part of your live performances, who are your current touring dancers? Do you collaborate actively in the choreography? 

Actually dancing is not and has never really been a huge part of the SSION live experience. Only in a few of the music videos and some of the live performances are there dancers/choregraphy. And it's usually very losely choregraphed. I do like having dancers around because they tend to be such high drama on and off stage but it's only an added bonus when necessary.

Your tour has already hit Stockholm, Wien, Athens and Milan among others; what's the craziest thing you've witnessed so far? Who wins the prize for the best audience?

The acropolis. I got a tattoo of it after seeing it on ketamine. It was so cool. I guess Athens was my favorite show thus far followed by Munich.

You're also cultivating a successful artistic career as a visual artist. Your 'Family Values' group exhibition is currently being shown at Senda Gallery in Barcelona, together with Casey Spooner (one half of the electro-clash duo 'Fischerspooner') and fashion designer Peggy Noland. Can you tell us more about it and do you have plans for more gallery shows around Europe?

Casey and his boyfriend Adam Dugas made a movie called DUST in Kansas City that stars Peggy Noland, Jaimie Warren and myself. It's mainly an art show set around premiering the film. I also put some drawings in the show, but outside of that i don't know a whole lot about it and i haven't been able to see it yet.

They say that touring breeds a lot of inspiration: have you already written/recorded new material? could you reveal in which direction your music is heading to?

I definitely feel insipired and i've been taking notes for a cookbook/feature film but we've been on the go so much i haven't had a chance to do much of anything other than play a show, eat bread, and buy lots of jewlery. That being said we do have new music on the way!
