Why this win-- beyond breaking of the curse and being so incredibly worth it --was the most narratively compelling win that the Captain could have had.
(a quick note before I start: this isn't the kind of stuff I usually post! Just. I've been thinking about it all night.)
It comes down to narrative foils. This win was not only CaptainSparklez triumphing over MCC as a whole, a beast that has cursed him for so very long, but also a triumph over the last person who brought him down.
Because the last time he went to dodgebolt was in MCC 15, on the Yellow Yaks. He was swept by a team Dream was on. Dream, who has historically been one of the figureheads of any team he acts on.
This led me to looking at Dream's stats, out of curiosity. I wanted to know about his dodgebolt stats. Because, I thought, surely he's lost a dodgebolt before
Except he hasn't.
This was his first loss.
Narratively they become mirrors of each other, then:
Dream is consistently in the top ten individual, though his team placements are wildly inconsistent. Whenever he gets to dodgebolt he wins. In fact, most of the time he wins by a large margin, with two full sweeps and one 3-1 win. He's generally known for being less good at team games and more good at individual games, and has a reputation for being a bad sport about losing.
Jordan is inconsistent in his individual placements, but has a higher consistency in his team placements being top three. Whenever he gets to dodgebolt, he loses. Every time to a full sweep. He's generally known for being decent at most games, and somewhat better at team games, and has a reputation for being a good sport about losing.
Not only that, but the last time that Jordan went to dodgebolt was Dream's last full sweep.
MCC is a team game, yes, and I'm not making this post to detract from every other member on Red and Pink! They also worked so hard for the games and they did a wonderful job. But from a narrative perspective these two are such big foils. And on the Captain's side, Dream was the last one to take his crown right out from under him.
So, narratively, this final dodgebolt for the curse to be lifted being these two teams is just. It's so nice.
Green Guardians: Peppermint Patties
Did you know? MCC 7’s Green Guardians hold the current record for most coins scored in a single event, with 25’346!
Time for another MCC dessert: Green Guardians Peppermint Patties!
They may be the Green Geckos now, but my idea for this predates the change so I’m considering it valid lmao. This was a lot of fun to make and introduced me to coloured melting chocolate and candy food dye.
The white chocolate makes these a little sweeter than you would expect for a peppermint patty and they go great with a hot cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate!
Check out below for the recipe to make some of your own, and, of course, thank you Scott Smajor.
(Inspired by the peppermint patties from B. Dylan Hollis’ TikTok)
MCC idea:
The teams are announced ahead of time and there is a new feature called rigging, in which the audience can vote to give advantages (OP weapons, pots, anything at all) to players and teams. Whichever player or team has the most votes for an advantage wins said advantage. Each team and player tries to convince their chat to rig the game towards them. This expands beyond simply people voting for the CC or team they like. CCs start offering rewards like gifted subs for if they win the vote. The rigging system is removed when the voting website crashes after Dream offers to face reveal in exchange creative mode in Buildmart.
