Father’s Family: He dislikes his father’s family because he feels they put too much on the legacy and tradition of their family. They wanted to him to be more than a bodyguard for the Princess but he felt he was serving his kingdom better by serving her rather than being a merchant for the family. He was also unhappy with the way they treated his uncle Cassel when he married an elf and adopted his husband’s elven child as his own.

Mother’s Family: His mother is from a family almost as old as the Nuranis one. They are going bankrupt so they offered his mother to the Nuranis family in exchange for help. He dislikes them as well.

Growing Up: He watched his parents barely tolerate each other and decided the politics of the Old Families weren’t for him so he joined the royal guard and eventually became Dalliah’s personal guard. He barely gets along with his sister who has a real knack for playing the games of the Families. She’s considered a rising star in the family and in the running for becoming the next head.

Exes: One ex girlfriend named Tiala, this lasted for years starting in his late teens

Reason for breaking up: He found out she was asked to approach him by his father and that was too much for him. She was asking him to join the family business and give up being in the royal guard. It also put a strain on his relationship with his father.

What do other’s think of them?: He’s hard working and stubborn. They see him as a skilled fighter but as far as academics or arts he falls behind. People generally like him so long as he is in a good mood. Some find it fun to tease him because he is easy to exasperate. Others use his gullible nature to dare him to do absurd things.

Friends: Grievance is a good friend of his. Dalliah is his friend but also the one he is in charge of protecting. He has a few good friends in the royal guard. He gets along well with Caerin, Valencia, Taerin, Nadine, and Luca.

Personality-

Traits: He was chosen to be Dalliah’s guard because he is as equally stubborn as she is. He’s willing to chase her down no matter how far she runs off, which is a common occurrence. He gets exasperated and impatient easily but he is also unwilling to give up, which leads to him being extremely grumpy when he finally catches up to her. His sense of humor is for bars and taverns only so he is often found there. The intricacies of court life are annoying to him so he avoids them at all costs. He’s straightforward and honest, sometimes too much, which makes him generally likable. He’s also easy to tease and prone to outbursts.

Biggest Regret: Not asking Tiala if she ever truly had feelings for him and only getting angry and ending it.

Fears: That no one will ever be able to love him and not his surname. That eventually he will be dragged into his family’s issues. That he will fail at his job to protect Dalliah.

Secret Wish: To be a random person with no fancy name or family.

Influenced by: His entire family turned him off of court life and political games. The royal guard instilled a sense of duty and honor. Dalliah taught him the importance of freedom and being true to one’s self. Grievance is a fighter he admires, although it’s hard to get him to admit that.

Face: He has a wide striking face with jutting lines. There are scars on his right eyebrow and lip. His lips are thin and often chapped. He has freckles scattered across the thin bridge of his nose. His nose is pretty average. His eyes are small with honey brown irises and short lashes. He never cares for his eyebrows so they are often overgrown and thick. He has small ears.

Hair: In the royal guard one isn’t allowed to let their hair grow beneath their ears. Nolan lets his grow a bit, and it is very thick. It’s a light brown color with golden highlights. He often only brushes and lets it decide where it will sit on top. It naturally parts on the left which means it often hangs over the right side of his forehead. It is naturally wavy as well.

Body: Nolan is short, about 5’4”. He is extremely muscular and is always working to maintain his physique. His limbs are also short but he makes up for everything in power. He has some scars on his back, abdomen, legs, and arms. His legs are the longest part of him. His neck is short and a bit wide because of his muscles. His shoulders are more narrow than he would like them to be. He has a pale golden complexion.

Hobbies: Sparring with his friends on the guard and Grievance. Tagging along with Dalliah on whatever activities she has planned for the day. Playing with the tackle ball (similar rules to rugby). Riding horses. Swimming. Training his body.

Father’s Family: Caerin’s Father was the King before him and was rather strict towards his grandchildren. The former Queen however was kind and smothered them with love. Because of this Dalliah was closer to her grandmother. Her father was an only child.

Mother’s Family: She has many siblings and it was constant competition between them growing up, but she is quite close to many of them. Her parents were strict but loving. They visit as often as possible.

Growing Up: She gets along with her three siblings very well. She always the rambunctious one who was running off to find a new adventure. Her mother worried about her constantly while her father encouraged it.

What do other’s think of them?: Others find her charming and unpredictable. Some have fallen for her but she has gently let them down. Everyone thinks of her as the lovable nerd.

Personality-

Traits: Outgoing, she is always looking for something or someone new. She is also compassionate and hopeful. It is hard to beat her optimism, but she is aware that the world is far from perfect. When she hears of oppression or people in need she is always the first to run to their side. It infuriates Nolan to no end how brave and reckless she can be.

Biggest Regret: She regrets not staying at the castle more to see if she could have prevented the changes in her father.

Fears: That she will fail her people and her kingdom. Losing her family and disappointing them. Hates dark cramped places.

Secret Wish: That sometimes she could leave the title of princess at home.

Ignorant of: How to play the games of the wealthier families. She always left that to her sister Nadine. She has yet to learn all of the problems facing her people but she is very aware of that.

Growing Up: He was given a lot of love but had a bit of a strict upbringing. He always looked up to his elder brother Ignius. His brother was patient and kind with him. It made him ignore the feelings he developed for the woman who became his brother’s wife.

Exes: Married to a woman named Amelia.

Reason for breaking up: Amelia died from the same sickness that took his parents.

What do other’s think of them?: There was a big push to get him to remarry after Amelia died but he quietly said no. He’s seen as handsome and stable, his only flaw being that he is too in love with his job. Of course no one knows that he is still secretly in love with his brother’s widow.

Friends: Has a few close friends. He is good friends with Sarana. He sees Grievance as his son and watches out for him because he knows his brother would want him to live a long and happy life.

Face: Square jaw and chin. He usually has a beard with varying degrees of thickness depending on whether he’s been made to shave it. His cheekbones are high and jut out a bit. His nose is large and striking. His eyebrows are thick. His eyes are dark with long lashes.

Hair: He has very dark brown hair that it usually kept short so that it can’t get in the way of fighting. There is usually enough growth for it have a bit of a windswept look, because he is always riding his horse whenever he gets a chance.

Body: Very muscular because all he does is train or work heavy labor jobs when he isn’t strategizing as a general. He is always the first general out the door when a problem for the kingdom arises. He is tall, at about 6’2”. He has long limbs and a broad frame. He takes up a lot of room. His hands and feet are very calloused.

Background-

Parents: Evelyn Dullan is her mother, but she barely remembers her. She didn’t take her last name as she wanted to run from her past as fast as possible. Her father was an elf who left before she was born so she doesn’t know his name. Yesma raised her for a large portion of her life in Heartha.

Siblings: None that she knows of.

Father’s Family: Unknown.

Mother’s Family: Her grandparents didn’t want anything to do with her since she wasn’t fully human. She has an uncle and some cousins but she never got to know them.

Growing Up: Her mother tried to protect her as best as she could from the rest of the city. When her mother passed away during a sickness that befell many in the northern part of the province she was chased out of her city when she was seven. She wandered around looking for food for years and running from those who were bigoted towards her, until she was 13 and came upon Heartha. She had managed to make it all the way down to the Fire Province. There she received kindness and welcome which was strange to her after years of being alone. She was taken in by the lonely widow Yesma who always wanted a child.

Exes: Four in Heartha, Tissa, Maven, Roona, and Serra.

Reason for breaking up: Mala is searching for something special and she just wasn’t feeling it from any of these other women. She’s hoping for a storybook romance.

What do other’s think of them?: The others in the village love Mala. She’s charming and sweet so everyone flocks to her. She loves to get to know others and has an exuberant personality.

Friends: Enya is her best friend, but she’s friends with most of the people in the village. She tries to remember everyone well.

Traits: She’s a kind and warm person that others immediately flock to. She’s tries to stay optimistic which is very different from how she used to be. It took a while for her to open up, but once she did she decided to become a completely different person. She didn’t want to be the scared little girl running from everything in the world anymore.

Biggest Regret: Not asking more questions about her father or even trying to find him. 

Fears: Losing her home and her newfound family.

Secret Wish: To know who her father is. To go back home and see where she lived with her mother.

Influenced by: Her traumatic past has hardened her, but her time in Heartha has softened her. She still gets flight or fight responses occasionally, but she hides it well. She has managed to make others think she is open while keeping how she truly feels deep inside. Only Enya truly knows how hard the past has been to her. Because of Enya’s own traumatic memories it was easy for Mala to bond with her. She tries to be kind, and when confronted with anger or bigotry she simply stays silent and uses her kindness to kill.

Body: Mala is curvy on the bottom and small on top. She has long thin arms, but her thighs and calves are thick. Her hands and feets are small. Her neck is long and slender. She carries herself in a way that lets people know she’s beautiful. She has light brown skin.

Hobbies: Baking, sewing, making medicine, and gardening are some things she does in her free time. She loves clothing and jewels but she isn’t afraid to get dirty.

Growing Up: His father died when he was seventeen and his sister was only a couple years old. He helped his mother as much as he could and focused on getting strong for his family’s sake. His father was always proud of his Elementalist skills so he focused on strengthening that.

What do other’s think of them?: He is not interested in romantic or sexual relationships.

Friends: He considers Enya a friend/rival whose skills he admires. He’s on good terms with Mala. He has a couple of good friends in the village and in a couple of the bigger cities, such as Ignar and Embra. He gets along with everyone, although they don’t understand him too well. A lot of the girls have a crush on him.

Personality-

Traits: He is a stubborn guy who refuses to quit until he’s accomplished what he’s set out to do. He’s quiet but can become angry and loud when provoked. He’s the type that believes one should only speak if they have something to contribute, which leads others to think he understand much. Truth is he’s rather clever just a little narrow minded. It’s hard to change his mind. He can be prideful, but ultimately he means well. Some social cues go over his head. He tries his best to understand others but has a hard time doing so. He is very straightforward and tells you what he thinks of you in a blunt manner.

Biggest Regret: Not being there the day his father was killed in a farming accident. He wonders if he could have prevented it, or at least been there for his family. He was visiting his aunts in Ignar at the time when they received the news.

Influenced by: His father taught him to treat others, even strangers, with kindness. His father also instilled an intense work ethic and drive in him because that’s how his father was, and he always wanted to be like his father. His mother has been trying to help him better understand others, but also teaches him that it’s okay if he doesn’t. That everyone thinks and feels differently. She made him realize that although he doesn’t understand others well things that don’t upset him may be the opposite for them and vice versa, and that’s okay. He learned to accept himself and others around him for who they are because of her.

Parents: Aidan Bracken and Celosia are her birth parents, but the one who raised her was her grandmother, Helra Bracken.

Father’s Family: Her grandmother is all that remains of her father’s family.

Mother’s Family: They are part of a nomadic tribe that roams the plains in the southeast part of the Fire Province. When her mother fell in love with her father and decided to leave with him they disowned her.

Growing Up: After her parents were killed by bandits her grandmother took her in and raised her. She’s had a rather simple life after that in a village called Heartha, where her father grew up. This village has yet to see the full impact of the downturned economy of Alem yet, so it has been a pleasant place to grow up for her. She’s spent most of her life becoming a better Elementalist and helping her grandmother out.

Exes: Only one named Evan

Reason for breaking up: It was a casual thing that ended when his father moved them to another village.

Relationship Status: Single

What do other’s think of them?: Others see her as quiet and intimidating, which makes it hard for them to approach her.

Friends: Mala is her best friend. Blaise is begrudgingly her rival. She gets along well with the rest of the village but there is a bit of a distance between her and them.

Personality-

Traits: Quiet, the type that others are not sure how to respond to. She likes to observe and know a situation before offering input or reacting. Her cautious nature leads to her not knowing her fellow villagers very well. She wants strength, but not only on the outside. Her anxiety and trauma leads to her being worried that when push comes to shove she won’t be strong enough. She would rather deal with something she understands than the unknown any time. Many think of her as someone mysterious, but she truly enjoys simple things. 

Biggest Regret: Not being able to do more to prevent her parents’ deaths.

Fears: Losing any more loved ones. Swimming.

Secret Wish: To have her parents back. To be more courageous like they were.

Ignorant of: What the world holds and what it’s like. Of the other species and their cultures.

Influenced by: Her parents taught her the importance of freedom of self. Doing what she needed to do in order to be happy, although she’s never too sure what it would be that would make her happy. The death of her parents caused her to be cautious and suspicious of the world. She no longer trusts as easily. Her grandmother taught her the strength that can be found in being kind to people, but she has a hard time grasping it. She wants to be more like her grandmother, who she sees as a steady figure that could last in any situation.

Face: She has a long oval shaped face with a small round chin. Her forehead is wide but her cheeks are small and round. Her nose is thin and comes to a point. Her lips are thin as well and rest just beneath the nose. She has big ears and smattering of freckles all across her face. Her eyes are large and green with short dark lashes.

Hair: Her hair was the same shade of dark auburn that her mother had.  It was similarly kept in a long braid that came all the way down to her waist, but when undone went well beyond that. It parted in the middle of her forehead and she always kept strands loose to better frame her face.

Body: Enya isn’t very tall but isn’t very short, much more average in height. She had no real shape to her, because she wasn’t large in the hips or chest, but rather opted to have more muscle on her body instead. She was thick in her core, thighs, and biceps. Her hands and feet were small but they packed quite a punch. She has tanned skin with dark freckles scattered on her arms and face.

Hobbies: Improving her Elementalist skills, reading, sparring, and sleeping are how she is usually spending her time if she isn’t helping the village or her grandmother.

Type of food they enjoy: She likes warm and spicy foods that are full of flavor. Same for drinks. Sweets are not something she usually enjoys unless they have some zest to them.

Mother’s Family: Their mother had several siblings so they have several cousins who they try as much as possible to keep up with. Their grandparents are alive on this side as well. Family reunions for this side are very lively.

Growing Up: Thal was loved dearly. They grew up always surrounded by family and were encouraged to bring their friends over. They grew up on a simple farm but they loved every moment of it.

Relationships-

Exes: They had two, one named Slova and the other named Kitra.

Reason for breaking up: Slova was a young romance they both grew out of. Kitra was a human selling her blood in Valudis. Thal fell for her and tried to free her from a Night Spot but was unable to. She ended up dying there.

Relationship Status: Dating a woman from their village named Yamva.

What do other’s think of them?: Most think of Thal as the quiet compassionate one. Thal is always doing something to make the lives around them better. They assist those who ask them for help readily. Their outbursts are understood to come from a place of passion rather than anger.

Friends: Yamva is their best friend right now. They get along with many of their cousin and generally all of their family. They get along with their fellow villagers too. Once they join the Resistance in Valudis they make a lot more friends and quickly rise through the ranks to become a leader among them.

Traits: Quiet but ready to interject at any moment. Passionate about fighting for those in need. Suspicious of strangers but warms up once they spend time with others. Doesn’t have a high opinion of the upper classes. Not afraid to say what they think. Brave enough to stand up for what they believe is right. Gets impatient with those who are wishy washy about things.

Biggest Regret: Not doing more for Kitra. Not saving her.

Fears: They won’t be able to keep their family safe. They’ll lose Yamva. That the upper classes will drag them into a senseless war.

Secret Wish: To kill the people running the Night Spot where Kitra died, and eventually all Night Spots.

Ignorant of: Other nations. How to be diplomatic. How much they really do for others, instead they always assume they aren’t doing enough.

Father’s Family: He was distant with his grandfather because his grandfather never felt Luca had enough drive. His grandmother tried to connect with him but he decided it wasn’t worth it to endure the endless the lectures from his grandfather.

Mother’s Family: Doesn’t really pay much attention to this side of his family.

Growing Up: He was a cautious kid when it came to making friends. Unfortunately the friends he made weren’t very good ones so he became even more cautious as an adult. Grievance was the only friend he can say hasn’t taken advantage of him. His distrust of others made it hard for him to get along with most of his extended family.

Relationships-

Exes: He has had two significant relationships. One in his late teens with a boy named Darren and one in his early twenties with a man named Shale.

Reason for breaking up: Darren was a young romance that was becoming serious which scared the crap out of Luca. He decided to end it before it ended up hurting Darren worse. Shale was a romance where Luca tried to actually open his heart to someone. He became very close to Shale and let out all his feelings. Shale ended up cheating on him and this scarred Luca very deeply.

Relationship Status: Single

What do other’s think of them?: Generally everyone really likes Luca. He’s a kind guy, but he’s still a bit immature for both his age and role in Alem society. When he’s in a bad mood everyone knows to steer clear. He is prone to frustration but made a rule to himself to never outright yell at anybody.

Friends: Grievance is his closest and most trusted friend. He is aware that at some point Grievance had feelings for him but he never saw his friend as anything more than a brother. Luca is very close to his elder sister Nadine. He confides in her often. He gets along with Dalliah, Alec, and Nolan. He has a few friends outside of his immediate circle.

Personality-

Traits: Tends to be quiet because he likes to think over his responses. This is because over the years he’s learned not to immediately give in to his impulses of anger. He gets frustrated with others easily and breathes deeply when he’s trying not to get very angry with them. He distrust of others leads to him not having many close friends, which means he gets lonely now and then. He tries to convince himself that it's okay to be alone. It’s at these moments that he goes looking for Grievance and Nadine.

Biggest Regret: Dating Shale and never finding out if there was something more he could be doing with his life.

Fears: He will never have romantic intimacy because of his trust issues. He will be a huge let down, which causes him to try to lower others’ expectations of him. Dark places. That they’re going to ask him to be the next King.

Secret Wish: To be swept off his feet and not have to worry about it. To not care what others think of him the way Grievance does.

Ignorant of: The outside world. What life in the provinces is like. How to survive in nature. Street smarts.

Influenced by: Grievance and Nadine are the people he looks up to most. He wishes he was as free as Dalliah is. He envies how straight forward Nolan is. His parents taught him patience and compassion. His exes made him distrust others. He has a general fear of strangers thanks to a couple of kidnapping incidents when he was a child. He wants to be a more open person though because of the people around him.

Physical Traits-

Face: Luca has a thin narrow face with a pointed chin. All of his features are small. His lips and nose are thin and narrow as well. His eyes are a gold color with long blonde lashes. He has a couple of dark freckles on his cheeks, which are a bit rounded with dimples. His eyebrows are thin and hardly ever grow.

Hair: His hair is shoulder length and dirty blonde. It curls a bit at the ends. He has to spend half an hour brushing it because of how thick it is. Sometimes he wears it up or braids it in intricate fashions that Nadine tells him are popular at the time. Very rarely he allows Nadine to do it herself or even Dalliah, who abuses this by putting flowers or gems in it as well.

Body: Luca isn’t very muscular and is pretty thin. He forgets to eat due to stress so everyone is always bringing food with them when they visit him. His limbs, neck, and torso and long. His shoulders are narrow. His joints look a bit knobby. Also, he is short, about 5’3”.

Miscellaneous-

Hobbies: In his spare time he mostly reads. He especially loves poems, the more romantic the better. He’s skilled at chess and most games of wit and strategy. Sometimes he goes down to the research division to see what new things they are working on. He has an idle curiosity in science. Most of the time he’s spending his time idly wondering what he’s going to do with the rest of life. He’ll also watch plays or shows and take whatever visiting dignitary is around to help out his family. He’s very good with numbers so he occasionally helps out the treasury.

Type of food they enjoy: Nothing too spicy. He can eat sweets but doesn’t love them. He mostly sees food as a way to provide himself with energy to read more books.
