In my fan continuity, Windblade was banished from Caminus, taking the punishment originally meant for Maxima, her wife. Maxima broke Caminus' promise to stay neutral in the Autobot-Decepticon war by offering aid to stray Decepticon troops. As a result, Maxima faced possible execution or eternal imprisonment until Windblade stepped in. They were separated but allowed just one chance to say their goodbyes. Maxima would remain on Caminus while Windblade would take to the stars to hunt down Optimus Prime and/or Megatron to prove her loyalty to her homeworld.

Prime Wars is a fascinating show that used their short run-time to create a truly intriguing story–a war among giants then titans, old faction leaders coming out of exile, and a peaceful figurehead taking up arms. And, of course, we have the overarching theme of love which drives home the plot, giving it the momentum it needs to captivate an audience of Transformers fans.
We have a strong start in “The Fall” when Maxima dies, creating an opening Windblade needed to attack Menasor. This episode allows us to witness the intimate purpose of Windblade’s drive. The whole reason she became the vengeful Camien was to protect the people she loved and the planet she called home.
Windblade, once a devoted Cityspeaker, grew tired of her former leader’s inaction to save Caminus from the warring Combiners. The Mistress of Flame abandoned Caminus and its people which caused Windblade to take up arms, dealing with the issue herself. This act of defiance and clear retaliation would have been impossible to accomplish on her own. Luckily, there was Maxima. Together they risked their lives fighting against the Combiners destroying their home.
One of the first scenes in Combiner Wars is Maxima’s sacrifice–an act she performs as a last ditch effort to save Windblade from Menasor. Already gravely wounded, Maxima attacks Menasor and dies in the process. Despite being in the throes of battle, Windblade still called out for Maxima and, upon realizing her dear companion deactivated, avenged her fallen comrade by saying Maxima’s name as she cleaved Menasor in two. After speaking to the Combiner, Windblade embraces Maxima’s corpse and mourns. She rises with a new purpose: continue their mission.
This grief follows her, drives her, as she even chooses to use Maxima’s weapon in the second episode, maintaining her companion’s presence in her determination and establishing Windblade’s devotion to Maxima and Caminus as one in the same. In short, Windblade loved Maxima.
In my fan continuity, Windblade and Maxima are wives and often do most of their sacred Cityspeaker duties together. Because of their planet's mostly inhospitable tempuratures and terrain, the two are always in danger as they travel. Still, they like to find breaks to relax and watch the wildlife, their favorite being small, fluttery creatures who glow like stars.
