"Elected For This" is a song written about forming a band (the Phantom Limb) in school and the once-perceived importance of all the minor dramas and little victories that came with it. Hard-headed dreamers with enough ambition to eclipse experience.

The band has become a metaphor for the friendships we formed when we were young and how they endure. We didn't all play instruments, but we were all in the lineup.

A song about not realizing what you have until it's gone. Our protagonist finds himself in a easy-come, easy-go convenient relationship with a mysterious lady named "Lipgloss".

He sees this relationship as superficial, meaningless and advantageously servicable. It is not until he realizes that he is losing "Lipgloss" that he comes to understand the greater depths of his feelings for this lady.
