+ MATTY ( @mattyalston )
Chaos reigns as people shout and yell and move, move, move. Hauling ass and supplies down to the basement as the fucking roof starts being stripped away. The high-pitch screech of the storm and the metal bending to its will is sharp enough that Jo’s teeth ache and the hairs on her arms stand up as she grabs another pile of supplies. She stampedes down the concrete stairs to the basement level, intent to get as much down there before the entire godforsaken building is torn apart. She’s not too keen on staying down there but with the river far enough away from them, she holds out hope that it won’t flood. The soldier is moving fast, too fast really, but they all are – or they all should be. But she ends up nearly running someone over and swears, half at them, half in annoyance and only trails off when she sees who it is.
“Jesus fuck, Matty. What are you doing?” He’s standing there, a stunned expression seeming plastered to his face. She doesn’t blame him – this is a shit show, but then she sees the form covered in a dirty drop cloth and exhales, praying for patience. “Come on, Alston,” she’s snapping fingers in front of his face, hoping to get his attention, “we don’t have time to stand around. You did what you could.” And the world is fucking falling apart, she thinks and grabs his arm to direct him to the stairs where a steady stream of people clamor up and down, supplies unceremoniously discarded at the bottom of the steps and moved out of the way by others.Â
