Janet Jackson's makeup for "What's It Gonna Be?" was done by Mathu Andersen, who also did the makeup for TLC's "No Scrubs" video and worked extensively with RuPaul. Jackson was styled by Wayne Scot Lukas and her hair was done by Janet Zeitoun.Â
Everyone knows that TLC's 1999 "No Scrubs" video was heavily inspired by Michael and Janet Jackson's intergalactic clip for "Scream".Â
Mathu Andersen did TLC's makeup for the latter, and then did Janet's that same year. Interesting stuff~~Â
Btw, Janet's makeup in "Scream" was done by Kevyn Aucoin.Â
Anyways, famous Black costume designer/stylist June Ambrose styled Busta Rhymes for the "What's It Gonna Be" video. She also did "Mo' Money, Mo' Problems", "The Rain", Jay-Z's looks in "Apeshit", and Missy Elliott's Marie Claire spread that dropped last week!Â
Moral of the story is: the relationship between the past, present and future is traceable and your faves inspire your faves!Â
Nobody asked but I talked in depth about all my fav makeup looks from America’s Next Top Model and the artists behind them in my first blog post today! 😌
