There are two players, working with a modified chess board:

Then, you decide whether you want to be Red or Blue (Colours chosen are arbitrary just so they're different to the chess board).

A d6 is then rolled, on a 1 or a 2, the red player places a piece on a grey square.

If a 3-6 is rolled, the blue player places on either a black or a white square.

This process then repeats, however, on each subsequent round the rules for the blue player are a little different. (That is on each subsequent roll of 3-6)

If a 3-4 is rolled, the blue player must place their piece on a different coloured square (so if they placed a piece on a white square last round, they have to place it on a black square this time), while a roll of 5-6 allows them to place it freely on either a black or white square.

The winner is the first person to place 8 pieces on a particular colour. So, Red wins if all 8 grey squares have a piece on them, but Blue wins if 8 Black or 8 White squares have a piece on them.
