He designed his buildings from the inside out and usually took an ample number of years to finish them. Zumthor believed that architecture primarily starts from materials. It starts by putting together materials and starting a reaction. He designs spaces so that the movement of the people inside spaces and the way architecture movement involves movement is like "temporal art".
