Peter Zumthor is a Swiss architect often commended for his design of timeless and poetic spaces. As a minimalist, he is known for his pure and austere structures. He is the laureate of the 2009 Pritzker prize and the 2013 RIBA Royal Gold Medal 2013.
He believed that architecture needs to be appreciated first-hand. He once said, "In order to design buildings with a sensuous connection to life, one must think in a way that goes far beyond form and construction." He designed his buildings from the inside out and usually took an ample number of years to finish them.
Zumthor believed that architecture primarily starts from materials. It starts by putting together materials and starting a reaction. He designs spaces so that the movement of the people inside spaces and the way architecture movement involves movement is like "temporal art".
