ophelia has probably painted tiny portraits of max (harper's pug) wearing different sweater outfits. harper has one framed and proudly displayed on his classroom desk.
harper hates public displays of affection in principle, but once ophelia's pregnancy bump became more visible, he could not stop putting his hand on her back in public, promoting the baby at checkout lines, and glaring at anyone who walked too close to her. he's already in overprotective dad mode and completely shameless about it.
ophelia, harper's mother, jackie, and harper's sisters, hallie and ilana, have a relationship that operates entirely independently of him, which harper finds both deeply reassuring and mildly suspicious. they text regularly, and probably have a group chat. jackie has likely shared embarrassing childhood stories/photos of harper to ophelia. he's asked his mother what she's been sharing, but he never gets a straight answer. he's accepted that he's outnumbered by the women in his family.
ophelia paints quietly in the spare room with the door open, harper writes loudly in the bedroom using the bed as his office. max splits his shift evenly between the two rooms.
