Culture is a really funny thing. I was thinking the other day about Matchblossom and how when I started, I wasn't sure if they were/would become friends or if they actually hated each other.
I was thinking about how some people truly believe they don't like each other, and I wondered how they could continue to do so even after watching the entire first season.
Then I thought, "They call each other by their first names." That is, probably for Asian people (especially Japanese people and people who live in Japan), it should be obvious that they were closer than they seemed on the surface.
It's really interesting how much we can lose just by not being from a certain culture.
I want to clarify that I know that being on a first-name basis isn't synonymous with closeness in many anime, like Naruto and One Piece.
Of course, I might be wrong, but it would be interesting if someone could give me their own opinion on this from the perspective of someone who lives in/has family in Asia.
