Last night, I declined Miranda’s romance option, and fuuuuck, I’m still high-key regretting it.
I went into this play-through with the same bias I developed during my first go around, but thankfully, I left that shit in the past. Miranda is so much more than people give her credit for, and with all of their parallels, she and Shepard have the set up to be the perfect pairing.
Imagine finding someone who understands what it feels like to have their agency taken away by forcing them to become a science experiment. For obvious reasons, this is also a reason why I’ve always tended to gravitate towards Jack. In Miranda’s case though, she was born to be everything that Shepard is, and because of the expectations and demands, she didn’t live up to the standard. And all the emotional turmoil of being ‘perfect’ and ‘genetically superior’ doesn’t take away from the hurt and confusion of having your life pre-designed by a father who happens to have enough money to think he owns your life. And then to turn around and do it all to another person, and watching them be everything you were supposed to be, not necessarily because of design, but because of who they are, could have been launching point into rage and anger, but instead, it turns into something healing, something secure, an understanding she hasn’t really been able to receive from anyone else up to this point. Â
Because I accidently triggered the final collectors mission early in my first play-through, Miranda ended up dying, and so I lost the ability to know her like I do now. Man, this wasn’t my plan for this particular game, and now I’m wondering if I should reload and veer off course.Â
