Once caught, no time was wasted as they wrapped him in garments to seal his movements, and prevent him from breaking free. And although he tried, he made no progress. The feeling was suffocating, not even his threads could move.
As he stepped out of the armored vehicle, he felt eyes on him, he looked through the gathered crowd and caught her staring, the only one who dared meet his gaze. As he was led towards the building, he kept his eyes on her until he was forced to look away as he was taken inside.
Inside, he memorized the corridors he was taken through, how many flights of stairs down he went. Each step taken felt like a step closer to his impending death. No one lived forever, not even those who claimed immortality. He had no doubt they would take his secrets (which he had no plans of making easy), and then dispose of him.
His guards finally brought him in front of a door to what he guessed to be his cell. Refusing to step inside, they shoved him in. With his wrappings still on, he lost his balance, stumbling into the cell but stayed up and turned to give them a harsh glare. He still had his pride, and wouldnât give them the satisfaction of seeing him fall. They slammed the door on him once he was in and locked it. Â
There was a bright light, tiled floors, a bed. Not at all the dungeon he had expected. It was still a jail cell in his eyes though, no different from the last he had been in. Just upgraded.
He sat on the edge of the bed and faced the wall. All he could do now was wait until someone came for him.
Were it not for Sakura asking Ibiki to intervene on what could possibly be a very promising opportunity where troves of secrets were concerned, Kakuzu likely would have been sequestered in the Konoha Strict Correctional Facility and left to rot there for the rest of his days. Many questioned the interrogatorâs motives, but a cutting look was enough to silence them, and it made Sakura grateful that the man was in her corner and not opposite it.
Already had a few years passed since the war had ended, and with it came changes. Aside from the high-profile exposure of the Uchiha Massacre putting Sakura and her ICIU on the maps, but alongside all the other cases that had come flooding in, enormous swaths of work needed to be done.Â
Proceeding into the lower floors of the prison quadrant of the Intelligence Division did Sakura find herself where Kakuzu himself was sequestered, the Jounin pocketing her hands in her flak jacket as she appraised him quietly at first, at this relic from a bygone era.Â
âYou probably donât know who I am, but honestly, itâs not important. I think we could help each other, Kakuzu-san,â Sakura began as she pulled up a sitting stool that had belonged to one of the wardens, âborrowingâ it for a short time. âJust call me Sakura, no honorifics required.â
Of course, of she were well-prepared, she might have had ryou to flash in some meager way of enticement, but he wouldnât buy it--pun or no. âI could make it worth your while, but thereâs insider knowledge Iâm sure that Akatsuki had. Knowledge youâre likely privy to.â
Legs akimbo while she rested an elbow on her thigh, it was a cocksure stance despite how uncharacteristic it was for the woman. âI have reason to believe Konoha has utilized the Akatsuki before. I just need proof to back up and eventually expose these claims.â
