Bruce still didn’t feel entirely sure about this whole going-out-to-a-club thing. But he felt better knowing he had Marzel there with him. Really, Bruce couldn’t tell if Marzel knew just how appreciative he was-- to know that someone else understood the struggle of coming to land with little knowledge of the human world, and seemed to want to help him, that floored him. But he didn’t want to make it weird. So he just acted natural.

And beyond that, Bruce was excited to see Gliss tonight again. Part of him still felt a little guilty, because he thought Gliss maybe had too high of an opinion of him, not knowing about the merman thing. But mostly, he just wanted to see her perform. He had never really seen ice magic up close, and more importantly, Gliss had seemed excited about it.

“Er, should we get a table?” Bruce suggested as they walked in and he heard the sound of someone singing off in the stage area. It seemed like a logical place to start.

Tiana truly believed that introducing people to new foods was doing the Lord’s work. That was part of the reason she wanted to open Tiana’s Place so badly: Swynlake needed a culinary shake-up, and an entire restaurant devoted to New Orleans cooking would definitely bring that. But for now, she’d have to settle for converting people, one at a time.

Saturday mornings were usually pretty quiet at Chippamunka, so Tiana told Marzel that he could come in that day to try her beignets. The head of the kitchen was starting to be a little more lenient about letting Tiana try out dishes as temporary specials, so she was able to argue her way to a temporary New Orleans menu that morning. Everything was ready to go.

Taking Uncle Waldo his customary egg salad sandwich and tomato soup, Tiana spotted Marzel. “Take a seat anywhere!” she called from across the room. “I’ll be with you in a minute!”

Apparently sharks could smell blood, and Aquata often wondered whether that sorcerer had given her some kind of shark-like gift. Because she could always tell when some serious shit was going down, and she was drawn to it. Aquata never missed a good sea battle. Lately, the sea had been full of them, so when she heard the sound of cannons, she swam to find Marzel. She liked giving him little treats like this. It was romantic, wasn’t it?

“You wanna see some humans destroy themselves?” she grinned, amused. Watching humans squabble over silly jewels was even better than the schoolyard games Aquata used to watch from the sidelines when she was younger. “There’s a battle going on at sea. I heard it. Let’s go see if there’s an opportunity, yeah?”
