the pain?

the cries of the people?

you hid, went by shadow during that time, even to get just the simplest of things

the way we ran?

how we left them behind?

we ran together, hand in hand, across the barren field,

and fearing death, for the last time.

the completeness of nature?

and how we spit at death, not fearing it at all.

i remember how afraid we were,

how reckless we acted.

how stupid and naive.

even if to just keep my thoughts company these long and lonely days.

mother wants me to go into the woods,

into the trees, to their land.

she doesn’t know the trees,

hasn’t heard them talk,

hasn’t felt them watch.

"take the dog with you"

there is a single path,

the only one there is in this vast wood.

people don’t walk outside of the path,

they don’t wander too far off it,

or else you never find the path again.

at least that’s what the old folk say.

"you stay on that path young boy, don’t leave it"

the deeper you go,

the further you leave people,

the higher the risk of strange phenomenons.

the woods are now quiet,

nothing except the whispering of trees in their ancient tongue.

even the dog stays close to you now,

doesn’t run off like she had at the start.

«a door was just right there, and another one further between the trees»

you see them, appear more often as the forest gets darker,

and as the sun hides behind the horizon,

it’s left you at the mercy of the forest and it’s secrets.

the dog whines and doesn’t go on.

between the whining, there’s a rustling of leaves,

somewhere in front of you, you think.

it’s a warning,

at least that’s what the old folk say,

we laugh together,

hell, we get frustrated with each other at times,

but that is resolved quickly.

we even cry together,

into each other’s shoulder.

we know each other better than ourselves at this point.

and this is more than a love,

it goes beyond that.

goes far by one our understanding, and that’s okay.

just so long as we remain together forever.

because you are just as important as a lover, and even more.

your smile is dazzling and your eyes are full of wonder and life.

you constantly seek something more than yourself.

your chaos and your occasional peace bring liveliness to both our lives.

and forever will i remember the sacred touch of our souls,

i’ll know it across time and lives,
