I sent this form.

Hika sent me the sketch, then the coloured version.

The outfit details and expressions of the sketch were perfect so I gave the OK to proceed.

When Hika sent the coloured version, she asked if I wanted any minor colour adjustments.

I wanted to balance their pinks and blues more (pastel pink, pastel blue, and white), so I asked to make Ene's colours a brighter blue (closer to cyan), increase the pink hue on her headphones and leggings, and to shift Mary's palette to a more pink hue.

I asked for her to add Ene's blue -> white jacket gradient, and gave this colour guide

I figured the colour suggestions would be more helpful to the artist and would give a clearer sense of what I'd like the colours to be.

Interesting that Judar calls Alibaba, "Alibaba-kun" (アリババくん, Aribaba-kun) with an honorific in Ohtaka's misc doodles and omake extras.

I'm gonna headcanon that Judar at first calls him with an honorific (pre-Kou Empire arc), but then eventually drops it and just calls him Alibaba as they get closer/get to know each other better.

In the Magi Manga, Judar just calls him "Alibaba" in their interactions on the Dark Continent in the Kou Empire arc (Magi: Ch. 265+)

I imagine that Judar initially gets curious about Alibaba because he is his exact opposites in personality and motives/goals/ideals and worldviews.

My friend Jaqui was just like, "Alibaba is the much softer one of the two, but for some reason I can imagine Judar doing everything he can to bother him."

I REALLY wanted to get my hands on the KuroEne and MaryEne coloured illusts so I could scan them in HD 🥰💞

Snakes feel more lethargic in winter due to the cold... 🐍

I find it so interesting how both KuroEne and MaryEne are Snake/Bunny themed (technically, with Mary being 1/4 Medusa), but are exact opposites as ships in terms of relationship dynamic.

Rambles

Unfortunately, the KagePro anthologies don't have digital versions available online, so I bought used physical copies from JP sellers secondhand.

I got used physical copies all in a batch for cheap ^^

I also took pictures of my recent KagePro merch today! I'll post them on main eventually 👍

I always format my posts on Desktop so I can have the 30 image limit. Mobile has a 10 image limit.

I scan at 600 DPI at Letter size 8.5 x 11 in, so the file sizes end up being like 5000 px x 6500 px.

Though obviously the book is smaller than a regular sheet of paper so it's more like 3200 x 4200 px per Anthology page

Misc Rambles

Btw I got used copies of all Kagerou Daze Anthologies for cheap, so there are some small bends in the cover and little black specks of dust/particles/dirt on the cover/pages that came from the original seller.

Thankfully it's not too noticeable, and the books are in fine enough condition for me to scan.

I would consider it standard B-grade quality (irt secondhand merch sold from JP sellers). Noticeably used and has some minor dents and such

Since the Book Jacket Covers of the KagePro anthologies are plastic, I can scan them normally and put the printer lid down and close it, so it creates a white background and even lighting.

When I put just the book down and close the printer lid, the printer is still a bit open (since it can't fully go down with a book) so then the background is gray/black.

Since normally, the printer lights up the scan with a bright white light to create even lighting

Scanning Process

KuroEne Winter Anthology Illust by Osora 🖤 💙

This is the initial scan I did. It's slightly blurry near the book binding

At first I was like :/ cuz I was wondering why the blur near the book binding is happening again.

I got the Mekakucity V's Blu-Ray (BD) box to rest on the book to hold it down.

Turns out that while it was holding most of the book down, it's not heavy enough to hold the book binding down (which naturally lifts off the scanner glass)

Heavier Weight

So then I did a test. I tried holding down the BD box with my hands as it was scanning

Which is tiring, since I have to stay like that for 2.5 - 3 minutes and try not to move to not fuck up the scanning (or else it'll create disconnected lines/parts in the scan)

And now it's not blurry...

So then I tried holding it down with the BD box as it was scanning. Then I put something heavy like a decade old heavy laptop over it.

It works.

I posted the clear versions up above!

Though, after I scanned the pages on the other side with weight on top of the book (Tsukihiko and Mary illust), it created small bends/creases on the KuroEne and SetoMary illust pages (near the book binding)

Cuz the Tsukihiko and Mary illust are more "pulled in" by the book binding.

I'll keep that in mind for next time but thankfully it's not too much of a big deal since I already scanned the pages before that happened

And plus the parts going into the book binding aren't very important (on the KuroEne and SetoMary illust)

...

I scanned the KuroEne and SetoMary illusts first (and I noticed the Tsukihiko and Mary illust pages are "more pulled in" by the book binding.)

The pages are sticking out more from the book binding (probably from the original seller). The page is easier to lay flat than the other pages, so I was able to scan it easier.

After I scanned the other sides (pages on the back), I noticed it created a bend on these pages but thankfully it's not too noticeable.

And it can't be helped. I had to put down something heavy cuz it was the only way to scan these pages with the book binding

I also scanned them before the bend happened, so it's fine. It's not on anything too important anyways. And thankfully it's not too noticeable

I'm gonna keep in mind for next time to scan any inner illusts first (and also just scan the coloured illusts I like first), and then scan ones that are more pulled in by the book binding.

Also since these KagePro anthologies are used, I noticed that it's B-grade (used condition). There's some small black specks of dust/particles that stick to some of the colour pages, like the KuroEne one. I saw it when it showed up in my scan 😔

I was kinda annoyed by that, but I got these as a batch for cheap so it can't be helped. Thankfully it's not too noticeable, and I could always edit my scans manually if needed to get rid of the black specks/dust 🙏

Also the Kagerou Daze Anthologies are much cheaper and easy to buy secondhand copies of on JP sites.

I would be MUCH more careful with Mekakucity V's Blu-Ray (BD) Limited Edition's Production Booklets and Kagerou Daze -in a day's- Blu-Ray (BD) Limited Edition's Original Materials Booklet

Since those are more expensive and more limited in quantity

...

Also I just noticed.

The colours of the Anthology arts on the wiki are different compared to the colours of the colour pages, when I have the actual book in front of me…

Also, not all Anthology colour page arts have been posted on the Wiki, so I'll scan some more arts sometime 🙏

Ruler of My Heart (ROMH) is implied to have been written by Luka (according to Vivinos' Patreon posts)

I think some of the lyrics can be interpreted as references to Hyuna (by fan-speculation)

"Ruler of My Heart" could also be an implicit reference to how Luka constantly has to monitor/keep his heart rate in check due to his strict abusive upbringing and "teachings" by his owner.

ROMH lyric can be speculated as a reference to the artbook line.

Alien Stage: Round 5 - Ruler of My Heart

Gonna write down some more thoughts so I don't forget.

Just brainstorming some possible ideas.

Me: Just came up with an idea for a KagePro x ALNST AU where Saeru is in the position of Luka (except minus Luka's backstory details obviously) and uses his knowledge to his advantage by weaponizing his opponents' grief and distress during his matches.

I speedran watching some MVs recently cuz I was interested in MiziSua.

I think my fave ALNST charas are Mizi, Luka, and Hyuna.

Also, I love charas who are deranged and a freak 🫡

Saeru and Ene match-up... 🖤 💙

Saeru and Mary match-up should be the final round 👍

I'm also really interested by the concept of adding KagePro's time loop into it with making it a loop where each tournament takes place on August 15th and then the timeline resets.

Me: OH I was imagining Saeru and Mary singing “Ruler of My Heart” so they take Luka and Mizi's place

I was just gonna swap the rounds so it makes more sense. Though admittedly, I'm still deciding.

Especially with the part where Mizi lashes out and attacks Luka as a trauma response (out of anger and grief)

Mary (in Mizi's position) attacks Saeru (in Luka's position) with her Queen/Medusa form 🐍

So that I could have my KuroEne and MaryEne vision with Mary having a match-up with Ene in a previous round, and Ene lets herself lose to Mary.

And then Saeru sings "Ruler of My Heart" out of “love” (twisted obsession) for whoever his S/O is. Ene, in our AU’s case.

Iirc it was stated that "Ruler of My Heart" is a song that Luka composed.

Reading the lyrics, if you interpret it as Luka's POV towards Hyuna, it does seem like some lines are dedicated to Hyuna, because Luka’s love is toxic, obsessive, and controlling.

The lyric, "Make me your god, I can give you everything" really reads as MiziSua and HyuLuka core.

Especially since Round 5 was officially a duet between Mizi and Luka, and then Studio Lico released official solo versions of ROMH for Hyuna and Sua

"Ruler of My Heart" indeed...

Hyuna’s life motto is that she wants to live her life for herself in All-In, she sings out of enjoyment, for herself, as her way of reclaiming singing from the Segyein/Aliens.

Though in contrast, Luka's toxic, obsessive, controlling love for Hyuna is still very child-like and "innocent"

Round 5: Ruler of My Heart

Saeru's "love" (twisted obsession) is very NOT innocent.

I also really like the idea of Saeru singing the line of "Make me your god, I can give you everything"

Especially considering his whole shtick in my KuroEne AU.

He plays up to his S/O's desires and gives them everything they ever wanted. Except for the thing they want most - to move onto the future with everyone.

Saeru tells Ene (during the final confrontation on August 15th in my canon-verse KuroEne AU with the MaryEne team-up Route), how he gave her everything she ever wanted and made all her wishes come true.

Though I'd want Ene to still be alive to see Saeru and Ayano's performance... I'd have to think about the order of the rounds so it can make sense 🤔

Or maybe Mary about Ayano (platonic), like maybe Ayano sacrificed herself for Mary earlier.

Anyways, I’d have Saeru and Ayano compete and sing ROMH about their feelings for Takane/Ene, and Saeru weaponizing Ayano’s grief.

Or it can be Mary about Ene (romantic) 🩷 💙

Or maybe Saeru and Ene should be “Ruler of My Heart” (with Ene mourning Haruka/Konoha) and then “Saeru and Mary” is Blink Gone

So Ig the options are to make "Ruler of My Heart" between either Saeru and Ayano, or Saeru and Mary

Like maybe Ayano thinks Ene is dead when she's actually not (just missing, and Saeru ensured she'd be able to sneak out)

And Ayano is clearly struggling in her match against Saeru and then attacks him out of anger and grief.

Like what point is there in Saeru singing “Ruler of My Heart” if Ene is not alive/there to see it 😭

Maybe Saeru should rig Ene to win one of her matches against an NPC so that she can still see it being broadcast 👍 Though she has no idea that the song is about her

Me: I think Saeru and Ayano singing “Ruler of My Heart” (Round 5) and Saeru and Mary singing “Blink Gone” (Round 7 - Final Round) would have a really nice set-up...

Misc Rambles

Me: I think similar to how Hyuna busts Mizi out after setting off a smokescreen so that she isn't killed after her loss in the round and violence against her opponent, someone probably comes to Ayano's rescue

Ayano is shaken up during her match with Saeru because she thinks that Takane/Ene is dead (though Ene managed to survive... somehow.)

Maybe Saeru manipulated events so that after Takane’s loss, Takane’s body would be escorted out after her match.

Maybe he secretly gave the order beforehand so that she could be revived in his lab.

Or Saeru purposely left opportunities to let Ene run away and escape Alien Stage. Though, she most likely wants to come back for the others to bust them out.

During their match, Saeru imitates Takane/Ene's touches around Ayano, because he knows exactly how she acts around him and what those touches feel like, based on his memories and intimate moments with her from previous timelines.

I'd love to see Ayano attack Saeru OMGGG

Takane's death/loss

One idea that could be interesting:

Takane is on the verge of death in the previous round (maybe even giving the round up to Ayano) but then Saeru takes her body so her consciousness can be transferred to an android body he made that has Ene's appearance.

Of course, Ene is completely unaware of this.

So Ene has no idea what happened to her between the time she lost the last round. Her memories during that time are completely blacked out.

Or when Takane/Ene gets shot after her loss, he makes sure it's done with a non-fatal poison/toxin, so it just knocks her out

Me: The final round with Saeru and Mary (Blink Gone) could be with MR2 Saeru and Queen/Medusa form Mary...

Me: I also love the idea of a Saeru vs. Mary round cuz of Blink Gone's lyrics:

Konoha's defeat/loss

Saeru steals Konoha's body before/leading up to a round that Konoha was supposed to perform (or he eliminates Konoha and takes his appearance)

So both ways (stealing the body and letting Konoha die first) are actually possible

Me: Yeah... As a stage competitor, I don't think Konoha has Kuroha/Saeru's charisma at all.

Also added with how selfless Konoha is. He wouldn’t want to hurt anyone and would sacrifice himself for his friends.

Saeru would know exactly how to manipulate the situation/circumstances to get the reactions he wants from his opponents, to sway the audience’s opinions in his favour.

He knows exactly how to use his knowledge/intelligence to his advantage.

KuroEne Art Pose Ideas

Ene can wear Iro-uchikake (色打掛, "Colourful wedding kimono"), the 2nd highest formal wedding kimono, that has a draping bridal trail 💙🤍

Kuroha/Saeru can wear the traditional formal men's kimono, Daiichi reisou (第一礼装, lit. "no. 1/most formal dress"), the highest level of formal wear for men's kimono, which consists of black (黒, kuro) montsuki kimono, haori jacket, and hakama 🖤🩶🤍

Since Kuroha's main colours are black and gray (and yellow), the traditional black, gray, and white colours really fit him.

At first, I thought about them carrying black and blue Wagasa (和傘, lit. "Japanese umbrellas"), which are oil paper umbrellas.

But I felt like it'd clutter the piece (and add too much detail complexity especially with how detailed their outfits are), and I'd rather the focus just be on their faces with it being a bust comm.

I imagined that Ene would wear blue flower accessories in her hair 💙🤍💐

I imagine that the BG would have wisteria flowers.

One of my fave flowers that I love is Wisteria.

I consider it a Selena flower 💜

It's a purple flower and also a poisonous flower 💜💐

In Vietnam, we call it Hoa tử đằng (lit. "Flower behind death"), and Cây đậu tía ("Purple bean tree")

We also call it by the name, Hoa fuji ("Fuji/Wisteria flowers"), which is used when referring to the JP variant.

There are both JP and CN variants of Wisteria.

"Flower behind Death" is especially fitting for them... Sighs... :'^) 🖤💙

Basically, I saw that Rin, an ID/SEA artist, drew KuroEne in the past, and I found out they were offering comms, so I asked if they could draw KuroEne in traditional wedding kimono 🖤💙👘🙏

Poses and Expressions

I imagine that they would both have open eyed expressions...

I imagine Saeru would still have his signature smug smirk, but that his gaze would be a little softer in this...

And Ene has a hand to his face, while Saeru has his other hand coming around the back of Ene's neck

Just used CSP's 3D models to get a quick idea as a rough visual guide.

I had this at first but then I was worried that his kimono sleeves would obscure too much of Ene's kimono, and I want Ene's kimono to be visible in the piece.

Feila suggested a kind of pose where their fingers would be intertwined. So I did this after! Now both their kimono sleeves can be visible and not cover too much of the other 👍

...

I considered the 1st pose for Rin's comm, but then I realized that his kimono sleeves would cover sm of Ene's kimono (unless his sleeves drooped down to his elbows) and I want her kimono to be visible.

So I'll use the 1st pose for my own art and handed the 2nd image as a ref for Rin to use

Hard to get the poses exact for the 2nd one but it gives an idea

This post is more of an update from me... Wasn't sure whether I should tag

I also had these when I was drafting ideas for the poses for Rin's KuroEne Traditional Wedding Kimono comm.

Rin (@/acengkebab) will get back to me whenever they’re finished their current commission queue (since they already have a lot of slots), since I was put on a Waitlist. I don't mind the wait ^^

For Rin's comm, I went with the ones where they're holding hands 😘

I considered KuroEne wearing their Design Poll and Seek at Mekakucity outfits but decided to go with the option of them wearing Traditional Wedding Kimono.

Oh I definitely have an idea of what I could commission Hika for 👍

Perhaps Ene could have a veil (but Idk if that's overkill. I just need the roses in her hair 💙 )

Since my refs for my HC version designs of JuAli aren't ready yet. I need to draw their headshots at least. I'd need their half-bodies (or down to their sleeves) if Hika needs to draw poses with their sleeves/arms raised up.

The other idea I had is KuroEne wearing traditional Japanese wedding clothes.

Kuroha/Saeru wearing traditional formal men's kimono, Daiichi reisou (第一礼装, lit. "no. 1/most formal dress") 🖤🩶🤍

Though it adds complexity. Hika can simplify as much as needed ^^

Commission Ideas

I came up with the options of commissioning Hika for:

One is simpler for Hika. She'd have to simplify details a lot more for the 2nd one

F: I feel like with the context of roses, weddings are perfect but the other choice is so good too... 😭

THOUGH, I'm leaning more towards wedding

Me: Yeah I also thought about how Ene's Seek at Mekakucity dress goes down to her shoulders so Idk how much would be visible in the chibi icon. Chibi Icons are Headshots. 🤔

I think going for them wearing wedding kimono is the play here, since it'll go down to their shoulders.

I'll tell Hika to simplify as much as she needs to. I just want the light blue to blue gradient on her wedding kimono 👍

No need to worry about patterns. That wedding kimono is VERY detailed.

F: Same, as long as it still has it's main characteristics, I'm sure it'll be fine :D

Me: OH I just forgot about expressions. What kind of expressions do we want?

Would Saeru have a smug flirty expression and would Ene have a shy blushy one or an exicted happy one?

F: Might sound simple but how about a (cute) nervous expression on Ene and a gentle smile from Kuroha? I mean, she's getting married to a snake demon, who wouldn't be nervous /j

Me: Ooooh it'd be nice if Saeru has a more tender expression 😽😚

I'll ask Hika for a smug yet slightly gentler/tender looking expression

(EDIT: As an update, Hika accepted my comm form so we'll see the sketch WIP update soon ^^ Probably sometime next week.)

These are the comps and poses I imagined for my future comms ^^

Admittedly I wanted to commission Akiko (@/Akiko_141) for KuroEne and JuAli, but her waitlist slots closed a lot quicker this time.

I'd like to commission her for my biggest OTPs (JuAli and KuroEne) when her slots reopen again 🙏

And then I'll go for my secondary ships ^^

The 2nd section is what I eventually want to commission.

The main reason why I've been mostly commissioning XanLena and KuroEne of my main OTPs, is because they have tons of refs that make it easier for the artists I commission to draw them.

Though I need to get JuAli's ref sheets of their HC designs done first.

This does also give me time to refine my eventual arts of them, cuz I wanna make sure the details are good so I can finalize the designs so there aren't inconsistencies in design details.
