3, 6, and 17 for art questions😊😊😊
3. Least favourite things to draw?
Small details really overwhelm me, and especially long illustrations where the expectation is being perfect. I had to do a lot of this when applying to art schools in my youth that all rejected me, and while I'm glad they did now, as going into debt for an art education would not have turned out well, it destroyed me at the time.
So basically anything where someone expects me to do it correctly! Remember I am exclusively here to clown!
6. Which artists inspire you right now?
Raindropmemory is an artist who I saw on deviantart years ago and back when Windows let you replace icons fairly easily I would use their custom icon sets and make them all my desktop icons because I love their creative and colorful and warm design. As an artist they have so much range!!!
Another artist I really have been blown out of the water by, but more recently, is Marsoids, creator of Long Exposure and who is now creating a demon car/street racing themed webcomic you should totally check out called Ride or Die.
the action, energy, and suspense in their work, whether it be the color scripting, composition, or even the epic lighting seen above--and ahem the technical mastery required to draw cars--yeah. I heard you can peep Ride or Die pages way early if you support them on patreon too.
17. What inspires you?
Our Electrum Artist Feature series, meant to give a voice to each of our mixed-race contributors outside of the book itself, continues!
Artist Feature #9 is the incredible Kam “Mars” Heyward. Kam is a comic artist, storyboarder, character designer, and animator living in Portland, OR. They currently work on the ongoing LGBT/drama comic series Long Exposure.
Their Electrum story "Bobby and Jules" is about a bi-racial boy named Bobby who befriends and trains his new dog to face down a bully... and his own self-doubts.
We’re looking forward to sharing more of our art and artists with you~
We are over 58% funded! Check out our Kickstarter campaign, running until Nov 3!
