He cupped one side of his mouth as though hiding his lips while whispering a secret before he did exactly that.

“—is to talk to ‘em like you’d talk to anyone else. You’re overthinkin’ it! If you’re nervous n’ forcin’ out words n’ startin’ conversations that don’t come natural, it ain’t gonna feel natural n’ probably won’t be that enjoyable for either o’ y’all. You’ll feel flustered n’ like y’ain’t doin’ well, she might take any awkward spans o’ silence or your nervousness to mean you’re uncomfortable because of her, n’ y’all won’t get the chance for the pieces to fall where they may.

I get it; if it is just one girl ya got eyes for, it might be hard to accept it if she don’t seem super interested n’ y’all don’t work out, but it ain’t gonna do y’all no good if she gets interested in ya cause you’re puttin’ up a front. Y’all might wind up havin’ a lot in common n’ gettin’ ‘long like a house on fire—but you’ll never know if ya don’t get the chance to talk about things y’all might relate on. So just talk! Ask her what kinda things she’s into—movies, games, shows, anything really! If she’s got on cute clothes or has pretty hair, maybe mention it, ask where she got whatever cute she’s wearin’ or ask what beautician she goes to. Conversations don’t have to have strong hooks or be make or break to do what they’re meant to do— cause an interaction between y’all, see if you’re compatible, give her some sense of who you are n’ give her somethin’ to remember about ya so you ain’t just someone pinin’ off to the side n’ never gettin’ noticed or gettin’ to know her. If things’re goin’ well by the time your talk is wrappin’ up, ya might as her if she’s got some kinda social media y’all can talk through or if she’d be comfortable givin’ ya her number. Keep in mind that even if a lady you’re interested in don’t seem interested too (be it only romantically or in general) it ain’t the end o’ the world. Bein’ someone’s friend ain’t a losin’ option, n’ y’all might need to re-evaluate your interests if it feels like one. After all, if ya can’t see yourself bein’ friends with an eligible partner if romance ain’t on the table, that ain’t exactly a good sign for any relationship that could develop.

He wipes at his eyes with his kerchief, visibly calming over the impromptu group hug. Maybe it was a bad day, but at least not every single minute of it was bad. Heaving a sigh, sniffling a little, he did his best to hug all of them at once.

“...Hee... You bein’ silly. You da one who’s... Who’s... Cute...”

He meant to say more... Didn’t he? Goodness, it was so hard to care about saying more.

No! No, it was rude to not talk to people who took the time to visit him!

An unpleasant expression flashed across his face for just a moment as he tried and failed to muster up some kind of intelligent words to keep their conversation alive.
