“I got married early at 25. Once I graduated I planned to study abroad with my husband. However, since my husband got a job our plans changed. Back then I really resented him, thinking why did I get married so early? My husband and friends’ lives kept improving while mine remained stagnant. I felt like I was stuck in a cage just staying at home and raising my kids. That was four or five years after I was married. However, now, ten years later when I look back on it all I think, ‘It was right to have kids earlier.’ Raising a kid isn’t all one sided. I have also grown with my kids. So, the more quickly I had kids, the more quickly I matured. Even though my physical age continues to get older, my mental age and the shaping of my values develop as I compromise and match them with my husband all the while gaining a sense of patience by raising kids. Unless you intend to miss out on that important experience, it’s better to figure it out early. It may help you to live a more healthy life. Get married early. It’s fortunate.”

“졸업과 동시에 남편이랑 같이 유학을 가려고 25살에 일찍 결혼을 했어요. 그런데 남편이 직장을 가지게 되면서 계획이 바뀌었어요. 그때는 내가 왜 이렇게 일찍 결혼을 했을까 원망을 되게 많이 했어요. 남편과 친구들은 발전해나가는데 나는 계속 정체되어있고, 아이들 키우면서 집이란 울타리 안에서만 갇혀있단 생각이 컸거든요, 결혼하고 한 4-5년까지…그런데 10년이 되는 지금 돌이켜보니 ‘이왕이면 좀 더 일찍 아이를 낳을 걸’ 하는 생각이 들어요. 양육은 내가 아이에게 일방적으로 하는 게 아니예요. 나도 아이와 같이 성장하거든요. 그러니 아이를 일찍 키우면 키울 수록 내가 더 빨리 성숙해 지는 거죠. 육체적인 나이는 들어간다해도, 정신적인 나이와 가치관의 형성은 남편과 함께 맞춰가면서 타협하고 아이를 키우며 인내함으로써 생기는 거니까요. 그러니까 그 중요한 경험을 내가 안 할게 아니라면, 이왕이면 일찍 결혼하는 게 이 사회에서 더 건강하게 살아가는 데 도움된다고 생각해요. 일찍 결혼하세요. 복입니다.”

Heyyya!

Allow me to introduce myself, please? if you would..

I'm Katie-Maree, I am the 'Young Bride' I spoke of on my page.

So if you haven't guessed already, I am getting married!!

-yeah? so? you may be thinking...

I am quite young, I'm 19 and I know that doesn't seem like such a big deal. but according to many it is.

"It's going to stop you living life as a single woman" or "You haven't even experienced life yet" many people may be thinking...

But I've come to the conclusion that.. who cares?!

Now don't get me wrong I'm freaking out, like to the point of anxiety and stress to the MAX! But what I've learnt is...

If it's supposed to happen it will.

My fiance is the nicest, most caring man I have ever met (plus my mum loves him which as some of you know that's a bonus)

What i need to know is... if there are any of you out there who is getting married who is around the same age group as me... how has society reacted to your own news?

Not that it really matters what they think.. I just thought it may be a good idea to know you're not alone..
