She had no ring on her long fingers.

I slipped my left hand into my pocket.

She winked, smiled and darted off.

Forgetting all about my T-bones, I followed. She grinned at me as she picked up milk before taking off again.

She locked eyes with me near the fruit, as she slid cherry tomatoes into her basket. Then she ran off.

What could I do but follow?

At the till I was no longer alone. Everyone was loading up the counter with rabbit food and brown bread.

The redhead was passing by, heading out. She caught my eye.

Outside, the sunlight lit up her red hair.

I thought about just walking right out and following her. But I was getting bogged down with grocery bags. Headed towards the car.

It wasn’t much of a barbecue without the steaks, unbought, in the store. Boy, did I take some heat for that.
