Los Angeles is a place that continues to churn out quality music and it’s a pleasure for us to note that many talented acts are nestling jazz music in their own craft to provide a more solid, eclectic and sophisticated sound. The clearest example of this new wave is without doubt , the best rap album of 2015: To Pimp A Butterfly.
Today we sing the praises of Sacramento native multi-instrumentalist and producer Marknoxx , who recently stuck a feather in his cap with the last effort entitled Love.
For those who aren’t familiar with this triple-threat , we can assert we’re in front of an interesting and gifted musician, whose mastery and clever musical intuition brought to us pieces like True Magic by Mos Def and a plethora of collaborations for the likes of Sunshine Anderson,Uncle Snoop,E-40. This year Mr.Knoxx put his touch on the compelling work Heirloom by Los Angeles rapper Ill Camille , working on the laid-back joint titled Few Days along side superb vocalist Javonte Pollard.Well, for his new offering called Love, Marknoxx recruited Ill Camille and JaVonte to help him to record something special….and ….damn….they did it!!!Assisted by Emery Mesich (which delightes our senses with flute and horne!!) , a Sacramento composer,musician,arranger and producer , Knoxx pays tribute to Nat King Cole and his 1964 jazz standard record Love. Everything is set to create a refined and delightful atmosphere, JaVonte set the mood and gives us chills with his murmured vocals , the beautiful Ill Camille unleashes some soulful bars offering urban flavors that perfectly fit the sweet sweet and jazzy melodies painted by Knoxx and Mesich.
