Unlike her husband and nephew [Barry and Wally], who almost instinctively relied on movement as the solution to all problems great and small, Iris was still and unhurried. Despite the flurry of meta-activity that surrounded her world and was the distinguishing characteristic of the men in her life, Iris kept deeply, mysteriously immune to the seductive nature of speed. But she always knew.     She was always there for either or both of them. She was grace under pressure and the perfectly calm collected heart of a hurricane. And somehow her example mitigated Wally's impatience, or at least allowed him to understand that there was another way.
