THE PROBLEM WITH WEED
There's no sugar-coated way to say this: the one thing that stops me enjoying weed more often is that I would get fat if I did. I just can't stop eating when I am stoned. Food tastes better, I feel hungry, and once I start I go on until I am bursting. Subsequently I am full of regret and sorrow, but it's too late.
This is not a cosmetic issue. I am at an age at which being overweight wouldn't be a good idea at all. I work hard to stay in decent shape, and I know that regular cannabis use would blow it all away very quickly. A case in point is that I have always returned from my annual trip to Amsterdam carrying extra pounds, along with the resultant effort and pain of losing them again.
So yes, cannabis creates the munchies for many people. But is there an antidote to this feature, other than finding the willpower I lack? I'm not aware that there is.
I've tried hard to address this. I've sought strains which I thought might not cause it. I have eaten well or drunk water prior to consumption. I have tried to distract myself when I start thinking about food. I have tried everything I can think of. Â
Nothing works, and I ran out of ideas a long time ago. This has made cannabis an occasional joy rather than a regular treat. I'm not sure whether this is a good thing or a bad thing, but certainly it is something of an inconvenience.
The flip side of this dilemma, of course, is that if you need or want to stimulate appetite (e.g. following a stim binge), or if you wish to put on some weight, cannabis may provide a wonderful solution.
For the record, the cannabis in the photograph is Master Kush, which Leafly describes as "a popular indica cross from two landrace strains from different parts of the Hindu Kush region by the Dutch White Label Seed Company in Amsterdam." I smoked this (and White Widow) for pain relief on one of my expeditions a couple of years ago and it worked reasonably well.
