Heart on his Sleeve
By your Students youâll be Taught Part 1
Next
It had been nearly five years.
Sora was back, settled for the most part in the Land of Departure. Riku still traveled the worlds, rebuilding relationships heâd broken when he fell to Darkness.
After defeating Xehanort, it was as if the Light from Kingdom Hearts exploded; new keyblade wielders started showing up around the Worlds, and they needed to be trained.
Sora took up that mantle, an amazingly good teacher for the newest wielders, having them focus on stance and magic rather than combat.
That would come when they were more comfortable with their blade; enough that they wouldnât accidentally hurt their opponents.
Then it was time to find somewhere they could let loose. Â
âIt probably needs to be fixed up first,â Aqua explained when Sora asked her where the students could spar, âbut the Mirage Arena should work. It held up pretty well against Terra and I when we sparred.â
Sora smiled. âThatâs great! Iâll go check it out, see what we can do.â
âRemember, it can also help them to watch a match. Get someone to demonstrate.â
âI will!â
He bounded off, checking on his students briefly before calling Riku.
âSora? Whatâs up?â
âNothing much. Just miss you.â
âI miss you too.â Riku replied. âWhat about the students?â
âTheyâre doing well. In factââ
They were interrupted by a knock on the door.
âMaster Sora?â
He looked at Riku through the phone, who nodded.
âCome in! Itâs open.â Sora sat up straighter and propped the phone up so Riku could see as well.
Corita poked her head in, eye widening when she saw who was on the phone. âO-oh. Should I come back later?â
âNo, youâre fine. What can we do for you?â
âIâm umm⊠still having trouble with magic. I get tired really easily after using it. I donât think anyone else does.â
âWell,â Sora responded, âeveryoneâs different. You have to build up your mana to be able to use different spells. Which ones are you trying to cast?â
âCure, mostly. Helles and Marell keep getting hurt.â
âCure takes a lot of mana,â Riku said. âMaybe you should start with something simpler.â
âButâŠâ
âIâll deal with Helles and Marell. If you want to learn magic, start with Fire. But on the training grounds, please. Donât burn down the castle.â
Corita giggled. âI wonât!â
âGo on.â He nodded to the door. âYou classes are done for now, but if you want to practice Fire, grab Aqua. Iâll be out as soon as Iâm done on the phone.â
âAlright! Thank you, Master Sora. Bye Master Riku!â
âBye Corita. Be careful!â
She ran out of the room and Sora turned back to Riku.
âSheâs a good kid.â
âYeah.â
âWhat about Helles and Marell?â
âThatâs what I called you about. I think theyâre sparring. We need a place for them to be able to do that safely. Itâs still too stable here.â
âItâs been five years since it was destroyed.â
âYeah, but it was never whole to begin with. This is a piece of Scalla Ad Caelum.â
âAh. Where are you thinking, then?â
âWell, Aqua had a place- the Mirage Arena. Have you ever heard of it?â
âNo, I havenât.â
âHuh. I havenât either. I wonder where it is.â
âI can look for it, if you want. Itâll mean Iâm home a little later though.â
Sora pouted. âI donât knowâŠâ
âSoraâŠâ
âI want to look for it together!â
Riku smiled, shaking his head. âAlright. Iâll be home in a few days.â
âGood.â
âI have to go now. Love you, Sor.â
âYeah. Love you too. See you soon, âKu.â
The Masters arrived back to the Land of Departure in shifts.
Lea arrived first, crashing Soraâs lesson on different stancesâfind the one that worked best for youâwith a flash of Firaga.
âMaster Lea!â the students chorused, dropping their stances to tackle him to the ground.
âHey, kids! How go the lessons?â
âMuch better before you came back,â Sora admonished, helping him back up. âGo take a break, kids. I have to check on Lea.â
âAww but we want to hang out with Lea!â Fidria complained.
Lea grinned, âI think Master Terra went straight to the kitchen if you can catch him.â
They all laughed and ran off, leaving Sora to shake his head.
âTerraâs going to kill you.â
âNah, heâs good with them.â
âDoesnât mean he likes it.â Sora scanned Leaâs posture, noticing he favored his left side. âWhat happened?â
âOk, he does like it, he just doesnât show it,â Lea responded. âAnd I think I broke my leg. We set it before healing it but by then weâd used up our mega-potions and neither of us are great at healing magic so itâs still a little tender.â
âLet me see.â
âNow?â
âYes, now. If we wait itâll only get worse.â Sora sighed. âWe can go inside if you want, though.â
âThanks.â
âSo how were the Worlds? Which ones did you go to?â
âThey were good. Pretty stable. We went to the Dalmationsâ home world, the Pridelands, and a new world youâd like. Itâs called Montonuii; itâs all islands.â
Sora laughed as he helped Lea settle in a chair and looked at his leg. âThat sounds nice. And it looks like just some bruising. Want me to heal it?â
âPlease. Itâs a kind of painful.â
âOf course,â the green glow of healing magic flashed and the bruises faded from Leaâs leg. âBetter?â
âMuch, thanks.â
âNo need to thank me, Lea.â
He smiled. âHonestly though, how are the kids doing? They looked pretty comfortable with those keyblades.â
âTheyâre doing well. Iâm looking for a place for them to spar, but I think theyâve been sparring already.â
âIs that a problem?â
âOnly because theyâre getting hurt and not coming to me or Aqua.â
âYou gotta lay down the ground rules, Sora.â
âI know. Weâre working on it.â
âGood,â Lea grinned. âAnd let me know when you get it sorted out. Iâd love to spar some kiddos.â
Sora laughed, âJust make sure you donât hurt them.â
âI would never!â
âRight. Go check in with Aqua. And send the kids back if you see them.â
âWill do, boss!â
âNot your boss, Lea!â Sora called after him, shaking his head as he walked back to the training grounds.
Kairi arrived next, waving at Sora from behind the class, making sure they didnât see.
Sora nodded in return, fixing Tierraâs stance.
He found Kairi when he was done teaching, slumping down next to her in the hall.
âSo have you figured out how youâre gonna do it?â
He jumped. âNo, not yet. I⊠Iâm nervous. What if he says no?â
âSor, heâs been in love with you since⊠basically forever. Heâs not going to say no.â
âI know that,â Sora replied, pulling a black box out of his pocket, âand thatâs not what Iâm worried about. You know how he is, Kai. If he says no, itâll be because he thinks heâs not good enough for me.â
âSo donât take that for an answer. Tell him how you feel, Sor. He wonât say no.â
âI just⊠Iâm scared.â
âWhatâre you scared of, Master Sora?â A happy voice interrupted them, and Sora nearly dropped the ring.
âFidrina! Werenât you guys going to eat lunch?â
âYeah, but everyone else went to spar and wonât let me join. So I came to find you!â She grinned. âSo, what are you scared of?â
Sora chuckled, slipping the ring back in his pocket. âThe future. Iâm about to make a big change and itâs scary.â
âWhatâre you gonna do?â
âWell,â he looked around, âif I tell you, you have to promise to keep it a secret.â
Kairi chuckled at the pair as Fidrinaâs eyes grew wide.
âI promise! What is it?â
âIâm going to ask Master Riku to marry me.â
She gasped. âThatâs so nice! I like Master Riku. Does that mean heâll be here more?â
âI hope so,â Sora smiled. âNow, go have fun. And remember, itâs a secret.â
Fidrina nodded. âSecret, I promise!â She ran off, almost bouncing.
âYouâre so good with them.â Kairi commented.
Sora shrugged. âTheyâre easy to teach. So curious.â
âNow, about that proposalâŠâ
âKairi!â
Sora released a soft sigh as he taught the students, causing them to look over.
âYou miss Master Riku, donât you?â
âWhatâIâRiveraka!â Sora spluttered.
The class giggled.
âIs that funny?â He glared playfully at them while they continued to laugh.
âYou think itâs funny?â
Sora charged at them, causing the six to scatter. Within seconds, he stood alone in the middle of the training grounds, chuckling to himself.
âSeems like youâre doing a great job teaching the kids.â
Sora turned. âRiku! Youâre home!â
Riku chuckled. âAnd you seem to be missing your students.â
âWeâre⊠taking a break.â
âTaking a break?â
âYeah.â
âSure.â
âWe are!â
âWell, then, shall we take a break inside?â
âYeah.â Sora grinned, taking Rikuâs hand and pulling him through the castle.
When they got to their room, Riku wrapped his arms around Soraâs waist.
âRiku?â Sora turned a little. âAre you ok?â
âTired,â his head fell into the crook of Soraâs neck.
âCome on, letâs get you to bed. Do you need healing?â
Riku shook his head, âJust you. Missed you.â
âMissed you too. Iâm not going anywhere.â
âGood.â Riku gave Sora a brief kiss before flopping on the bed.
âShoes, âKu.â
He grumbled, toeing them off and reaching for Sora.
âI have to find the kids so they donât get into trouble.â He protested.
Riku tugged incessantly. âTheyâll be fine. Stay.â
âRikuâŠâ
âPlease?â
Sora sighed, climbing into the bed. âGo to sleep, Riku.â
âItâs perfect,â Sora looked around in awe, âIt could use some cleaning, but the kids could spar here.â
âThey could,â Riku agreed. âItâs called the Mirage Arena, right?â
âYeah.â
âI wonder why.â
âNo idea,â Sora frowned, âIt looks kind of⊠sad.â
âWhat do you mean?â
âWell it hasnât been used since Aqua, Terra, and Ven, right? Itâs empty.â
âYeah, I guess.â
Sora grinned. âShould we clean it up or get the kids to help?â
âI think we should get the kids. Itâll be good for them. Besides, it will also go faster.â
âYouâre right, as always.â
âTook you long enough to figure that out.â
âWhat? That youâre always right?â
âExactly.â
Sora snorted, âYeah, sure.â
âHey!â
âCome on, Riku, you canât know everything.â
âOh yeah?â Riku goaded. âWhat donât I know?â
âThat Iâm going to ask you to marry me.â
The words were out of his mouth before Sora could stop them, and he and Riku stared at each other with twin faces of shock.
âIâyouâwhatâSora!â
âIâumâŠâ He pulled the ring box out of his pocket and dropped to one knee.
âThis isnât where or how I wanted to do this but⊠Riku, Iâve loved you since we were kids. Youâre my best friend, my soulmate, literally the man of my dreams,â they both chuckled wetly, âand even if you donât believe it, you deserve all the love in the world.â
âSoraâŠâ
He held up a finger. âSo will you so me the honor of becoming my husband?â
Riku shakily knelt in front of Sora, putting them on the same level again, and pulled him into a wet kiss.
Sora wiped his tears when they separated. âYou still havenât given me an answer.â
âYes, gods, Sora, yes!â
