Plot: Y/N, Ginny’s sharp-witted but guarded older cousin, arrives in Wellsbury for the summer, determined not to get attached. After catching a mysterious boy sneaking into Ginny’s window, her nightly rooftop escapes are interrupted when he finally speaks to her. It’s Marcus Baker. She keeps her walls up—but he doesn’t seem put off. If anything, he stays. And that’s the first problem.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
PART 1 :
Wellsbury was too perfect. Like a coffee commercial that went on too long. Y/N stepped out of the car and immediately hated how aggressively warm the sunshine was.
She wasn’t here to heal. Or find herself. Or make memories. She was here because her mom said she “needed a change of scenery.” As if scenery had anything to do with the way her heart still ached—or why she didn’t believe a single word boys said anymore.
“Y/N!” Ginny practically skipped off the porch and wrapped her in a hug before she could dodge it.
“Wow,” Y/N said dryly, “do you have cheer practice later, or is that just how you say hi now?”
Ginny laughed. “You haven’t changed.”
And that was the whole problem.
—
The first few days blurred together. Georgia was suspiciously welcoming. Ginny stayed busy flitting between her friends and her very organized chaos.
Y/N mostly kept to herself, unpacking only what she needed. Everything else—literal and emotional—stayed zipped up tight.
At night, when the house finally went quiet, she’d climb out the bedroom window and settle on the roof—not because it was rebellious, but because the stars didn’t ask questions. She also liked being able to smoke her joint in peace.
She noticed him on night two.
Tall. Dark hoodie. Slipping through Ginny’s window like it was routine. No words. No sound. Just a shadow that came and went.
She didn’t ask Ginny. Didn’t want to know. Not her circus.
But it annoyed her. Or maybe he annoyed her—the way he moved like the world owed him silence.
—
Night Four
She sat on the roof, earbuds in but no music playing—just needing the world to think she wasn’t available. Her fingers played with the zipper of her hoodie as she stared up at the sky and tried to ignore the dull ache behind her ribs.
Then: footsteps. Soft. Hesitant.
“I’m not trying to scare you,” a voice said from behind. She didn’t look. “Good job failing.”
A pause. Then the boy—him—settled a few feet away, careful, like he was trying not to spook a wild animal.
Marcus Baker. She recognized him now. Ginny’s neighbor. And apparently, her… whatever.
He didn’t say anything right away. Just stared out at the same sky she was trying to get lost in. He watched as she took a hit off her joint. Thought about asking for one. Decided against it. Made a mental note to bring his own next time.
“Don’t you have a window to crawl through?” she asked coolly. “Thought I’d try the roof tonight.” Marcus said with a shrug. Her eyes flicked to him. “Trying to expand your territory?” A beat. He half-smiled. “You’re not from here.” Marcus noticed. “Nope.” Y/N shook her head. “You don’t like talking to people.” Marcus added, about her. “Wow,” she deadpanned. “Do you use this much charm on all the girls?”
His smile twitched again. She hated that he didn’t get defensive. Hated that he didn’t leave. Part of her wanted him to.
Because if he stayed… she might let her guard slip. And people didn’t stay. Not when it mattered.
She flicked the last of her joint off the roof and watched it arc down toward Georgia’s flowerbed. Hopefully she wouldn’t notice the growing graveyard of roaches. Y/N had no idea why Georgia even liked those flowers so much. She picked at the fraying thread on her hoodie sleeve, thoughts racing despite how still she sat.
Don’t get comfortable, she warned herself. You’re only here for the summer. And he’s already someone else’s mistake waiting to happen.
He didn’t press her. Just sat there, occasionally glancing her way like he was still trying to figure her out and from Marcus’s point of view? He kind of was.
He hadn’t meant to come out here. He thought he’d maybe just say something smart, be a little annoying, and head back inside. But now that he was here, he couldn’t seem to leave. She was nothing like Ginny. Or anyone, really. A little blunt. A little guarded. And not at all interested in impressing anyone. He liked the quiet with her. He liked that she didn’t ask what he was doing, or why he wasn’t with Ginny. He liked that she didn’t look at him like she wanted something from him. Usually, he’d be riding around on his board, zoning out. Instead, he was sitting here beside a girl who barely looked at him and somehow made him feel more seen than most people ever did.
She didn’t trust him. That much was obvious. But she didn’t hate him either. The sky stretched out above them. Quiet. Cold. Comforting.

A/n: I haven't written about Marcus yet and he became one of my favorite characters from the show. I always seem to fall for the misunderstood characters. Does anyone else have that problem or is it just me.
TW: this does have the topic of depression in it, but I don't talk much about it. I thought I would just warn you guys in case.

Your POV
I haven't seen my best friend in over two weeks. He hasn't been at school which is making me worry a little because it's happened before. I tried calling him but he wasn't answering my calls. I sighed and left my room. " Hey mom, I'm gonna go across the street to the Bakers."
She just nodded since she was on the phone probably talking to our next door neighbor Georgia, which doesn't make sense to me cause she could just go over there. I left out the front door and I walked the short walk across the road to the Bakers. I knocked on the door, soon I saw Ellen open it.
" Hi Ellen" I said
" Y/n, hello...what can I do for you?" She asked
" I was just wondering if Marcus was okay?" I questioned
" Come in, you can go see him." She said moving out of the way so I could walk in. I walked in and signed 'Hi' to George and headed upstairs. I passed Max's room and heard her friends with her, but I just walked past to Marcus's room. I knocked on his door frame. He looked over seeing who was knocking. " Hey..." I softly said
He just gave me a half smile. " Want some company?" I questioned
He thought about it before nodding his head, so I slipped out of my shoes and joined him. " You okay?" I whispered, he didn't say anything so I let it go for right now and focused on the movie he had on.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We were on like our third movie and I moved to lie closer to him just out of habit. He didn't move a muscle, " Sorry..." I whispered and moved some
" It's fine" He whispered and moved so we both could share the same pillow. I settled on it and glanced at him. " You sure you're gonna be okay?" I whispered
He let out a soft sigh, but nodded. I was hesitant to ask... " You would tell me if something was wrong right."
" You know I would." He spoke and looked over at me
I stared back, we were super close where I could feel his breath hitting my face. " So there's nothing going on." I whispered just to see and I know it seems too much, but I worry too much. He gave me a half smile.
I smiled back, " Well I'm glad you let me stay." I whispered and rested one of my hands over his. He smiled for real this time and gave my hand a squeeze. We focused back on the movie and I casually ran my thumb over his knuckles.
Marcus's POV
Even though I'm going through my depression phase again I'm glad to have Y/n here. It's the little things she does that gets me. Like right now with her running her thumb over my knuckles sends like this calm energy into me. That I know when she's here everything will get better. I just wish I could tell her what's going through my head even though I don't even know what's happening most of the time. The third movie we put on was at the end credits, but I didn't make a move to find another one.
" Have you eaten yet today?" I heard her voice and glanced over at my favorite color of eyes. She was just sitting there patiently waiting for me to answer. I sighed and rubbed a hand down my face. I then shook my head and I waited for a lecture, but it never came. I just felt her get up from my bed. " Where are you going?" I questioned her not making much to get up from my bed.
" I'm gonna go get us something to eat." She said
" I'm not hun-" I started saying
She held her finger up. " Don't give me that bullshit, you're gonna eat. It doesn't even have to be a lot, but you're eating please for me." She said in that voice where she wasn't ordering me, but I knew she was serious.
So I just nodded knowing not to argue with her when she got like this. She gave me a smile before leaving my room. I just scrolled through my computer to find another movie.
Your POV
I was making some snacks for us and noticed Maxine. " Hey" I softly said
" Is he feeling okay?" Maxine immediately asked, which made me sigh, " He hasn't really told me much, but right now I'm trying to make him eat something." I told her
Maxine smiled a little " Thanks, Y/n/n. I'm glad he has you by his side right now."
I smiled some and focused back on the snacks I was making. I heard her footsteps leave so I quietly finished the snacks and carried them up to his room. " Okay so we have some trail mix, fruit and my personal favorite Oreos." I said while setting them on his bed and climbed back on. He let out a soft small chuckle..." Wow and here I thought it would be regular food."
I rolled my eyes, " It is... you got your protein from the nuts in the trail mix, along with some healthy fruit, and then just a good pick me up treat." I explained
He laughed a little bit more..." We'll thank you for bringing some." He softly said
I gently placed a hand on his shoulder. " Just don't let your body shut down. Even if you don't feel like life should go on, just remember you have people around that care about you." I softly spoke
He looked over me which I didn't mind until he pulled me into a hug. I hugged back and didn't let go until he did.
Marcus's POV
Being in her arms felt like home to me but I know I didn't want to get into something with her because I wasn't mentally ready for one.
" Thanks for sticking around." I whispered before I pulled away from the hug
She smiled and ruffled my hair. " I fear you are stuck with me." She said and I gave her a soft smile before clicking on the next movie while starting to eat for the first time today.
I felt her lean closer to me, but not right on top of me. Just enough to know she was still here, and that is when I knew it would all go away soon just by knowing she was here in my corner.
silver chain - marcus baker x reader no specific pronouns
Clicking away on the TV remote , Marcus typed in some random movie, you didn't care as to what it was as long as you got to spend the time with him watching it. You two don't see each other often as you live 45 minutes away. You walked over to the L shaped couch.
Settling in next to him lifting his arm and wrapping it around your shoulders. Leaving you to place your head perfectly above his heart. You smiled, feeling so happy. One hand resting on his chest, you looked up to to see he picked the movie 'what's eating Gilbert grape’. You sighed, “babe, you know i dont wanna watch this movie” “Sucks to suck baby” he smiled down at you and kissed your forehead.
You gave in eventually to watch the movie. Asking the dumbest questions every 30 seconds as per usual. You got distracted slowly moving your hand back and forth across his bare chest. Focused on the silver rope chain laying on his collarbone. You wrapped your finger around it and played with it while Marcus was beyond focused on the movie.
You traced his jawline and with one finger turned his head towards you. “Come on, you're missing the good part” he smiled. Causing you to also, knowing he really could care less. You reached your head up and planted a sweet kiss on his lips. When you pulled away he kissed your forehead again. Rubbing your bottom lip with his thumb he spoke slowly.
“Such beautiful lips” looking you in the eyes “and the most gorgeous colored eyes” you felt the palm of his hand cup the back of your head. Smiling, you kissed him again. You faked a sigh, “ugh fine i guess i'll watch the movie.” you said nestling back into his arms.
Nights are peaceful.
Some will say it’s the most dangerous time to be outside, especially for a girl. Some others may be afraid of the dark or convinced that only bad things happen during those unlighted hours. For Charlie and Marcus, night equals freedom. Everything seems to be in slow motion, trapped in the silence of darkness. It creates a safe space where they can live fully, without boundaries.
Her age-old well-worn black converses stride on the slightly damp pavement, kicking the tiny rocks along the yellow stripe in the middle of the road. The cloud-covered nocturnal sky captivates her attention. Her cerulean eyes linger on every detail of the damp air masses, paying no particular care to her surroundings, knowing the path to her final destination by heart. Some clouds remind her of animals, while others are more in the shape of objects.The habitual barking of Jack, Marcus' neighbor's dog, indicates that she's a house away from her best friend's home.
Charlie turns into the hallway, sneaking through the opening in the fence that leads to the backyard of the Baker's house. Kurt Cobain's exhilarating voice is cut short when her earphones cord gets stuck in the fence, yanking them from her ears. She tucks them into the front pocket of her forest green jacket, turning off Smell like Teen Spirit’s melody.
Leaning against the old wooden door frame, arms crossed over her chest, she quietly contemplates the eighteen-year-old man laying on a small rolling piece of wood, his head buried under the old motorcycle engine.
“Howdy, blondie,” her best friend’s deep, raspy voice shouts from under the bike. A soft smile slips on her rosy lips; he knew it was her, no one else would come here to meet him in the middle of the night. She tilts her head to the side, watching him grab the screwdriver with his right hand, a perfectly rolled joint between his plump lips.
“Hey John Bender,” she can see him smirk at the nickname which is a reference to the first time they met, five years ago. “How was your day?”
“Miserable, darling, as usual, perfectly wretched,” he rolls forward, revealing his oil-stained face. Her sapphire eyes roll; Marcus always provides the same exact response whenever she asks him about his day. She shouldn't even ask him anymore, she thought.
“Still working on this bike? I thought your mom told ya to get rid of it,” she gracefully steps over his outstretched legs, stealing his blunt with the tip of her thumb and forefinger.
“She did,” he says, a faint smile teasing the corner of his lips. “That’s why I’m working on it at night,” his tall sculpted figure stands in front of her, eyes to eyes with her since she sits on the stainless steel countertop.
“Ellen will kill you,” she blows a cloud of tarnished air on his face, grinning at the sight of his scrunching nose and half-closed eyelids.
“Oh I know,” his crinkled eyes give him an innocent look as he inhales the poisonous smoke exiting the blonde's parted lips. “That’s why she can’t know, capiche?”
“I guess that would probably be a good time to tell you that your parents bedroom light is on,” his hand immediately flicks the light switch, plunging the whole space into complete darkness with the exception of the bright light emanating from the master bedroom window. They both fall into silence, him watching carefully through the window while she leans her back against the wall, mesmerized by how his eyes sparkle in the reflection of light. She has always loved his light-brown eyes and how she is able to read him through them.
“Shit, she’s in the kitchen” he curses, seizing her delicate hands in his calloused ones, yanking her from the countertop that was in sight of the sink window. The blunt still between her soft lips, he pins her against the corner of the wall, hiding the both of them out of sight of his dear beloved mother. From her perspective, she can see his jugular vein pumping quicker than normal, pushing an increased flow of blood through his body. His hands are slightly clammy and coated with motor oil. Her fingertips gently graze the scar along his right hand that he got when he attempted to climb up the gutter to get to her room last summer. As far back as she can remember, Marcus had always been the taller of the pair, and he never failed to remind Charlie when she had trouble climbing the fence of the public pool in the middle of the night or when she was struggling to climb up to his bedroom window.
Their noses graze as he leans his head towards hers, grasping the joint between his teeth. He let go of her hand, taking the forbidden thing between his dirt-covered fingers. The warmth smoke tickles the top of her skull before she lifts her chin up to meet his hazel orbs.
“If this was a romantic comedy, we would’ve kissed by now.”
His furrowed eyebrows show his surprise and it doesn't take long for a smile to appear at the corner of his luscious lips. His thin, long-fingered hands are pressed against the wall on both sides of her head, his face close to hers to the point where their breaths merge.
“Should I correct that?” marcus whispers, his lips curled into his well-known cocky grin that she is so used to seeing.
“It was an observation, not a request, idiot!”
“Your loss, darling,” he winks as she pushes him away, her two hands resting on his chest covered with a Pink Floyd shirt. She then stands on tiptoes, her mouth a few inches away from his ear.
“Pull yourself together, Marc’,” a shiver runs down his spine as her warm breath brushes against the skin of his neck. “I know you’re the one dreaming about it.”
Oh if she knew.
second.
The warm weather of September had recently given way to the raining days of October. It has always been her least favorite month; first, she was forced to remain confined to the four walls of her home. Second, she hated halloween and everything that came with it. Third, her father always spent most of his time in the hospital due to limited staff resources or locked in his office with his patients files. Rain flowing down her window accompanied by Sweater Weather echoing in her dimly lit room only makes her boredom worse. She misses the summer evenings working on Marcus' motorcycle or staying up until the early hours of the morning, drinking cheap wine on the roof of her house.
Touch my neck and I'll touch yours
A shiver runs down her spine at the words. It’s been more than a week since his perfectly shaped face was buried between her shaking thighs; she can still remember exactly how his big paw-like hands gripping her thighs felt. Her face heats up and flush at the thought of being in that position with him again. It had been more than a year since she had orgasmed this hard with a man.
Realising her father will most likely be stuck in his office for the whole evening, she slips on her favorite oversized flannel over her black hoodie and grabs the camera on her desk before walking down the hardwood stairs.
"I'm going to be at Marcus'!" she shouts to his dad who looks at a white sheet of paper, eyebrows furrowed. "Just text me if you're leaving for the hospital so I know you need me to come back and take care of Brady," she pets the little dog on the head before closing the door behind her.
The droplets of rain glide along her face despite her hood pulled back over her head. As soon as she reaches Marcus’ bedroom window, she can’t help but laugh at his awkward position; he is laying on his bed, his head upside down in the void.
“Are you drunk, stoned, or just stupid?” she looks amused, a smile slipping on her lips as she stands in front of him, taking a picture of him with her disposable camera.
“All of them,” he smiles clumsily, patting the mattress on his left to encourage her to lay down by his side. Upside down like him, she feels the blood flowing to her head, making her feel a bit lightheaded.
“Why don’t we join Max and the others downstairs?” she suggests, sitting at the end of his bed, feeling the blood leave her head. “We have nothing else to do and you already smoked the last blunt without me,” she emphasizes the fact that he didn't wait for her, which amuses him.
“Alright, let me change and I'll meet you downstairs,” he sighs; he knows that she gets along with her twin and her friends more than him.
The multicolored lights flash to the rhythm of the music. Her eyes take a few moments to get used to the intense lighting while she pours some vodka and orange juice in a red solo cup.
“Hey pretty girl, would you pour me one of those?” this voice, she could recognize it among hundreds. She turns around instantly, meeting two ocean irises and a smile that awakens millions of butterflies in her tummy.
“Harry!” she smiles, slipping her arms around his neck, burying her nose in the crook of his neck while his hands grab her hips firmly. The familiar fragrance of Giorgio Armani tickles her senses, bringing back memories from two years ago. “I thought you were still in Indiana?” she says, pulling back from the hug to face him.
God, she missed those blue eyes and perfect blond hair.
“I’m just visiting my family for the week,” his hands lightly squeeze her hips like he used to do, making her weak in the knees. “Jordan told me Maxine was having a little get together and I had nothing better to do,“ he laughs, deliberately omitting to say that he was hoping to run into her.
“I missed you,” she admits, her thumb caressing his cheek.
“I missed you too, pretty girl,” he kisses the palm of her hand, making her blush and lose the last ounce of self control that she had left.
He was her first.
Her first kiss.
Her first date.
Her first 'i love you'
Her first time.
Her first heartbreak.
It’s probably the emotion of the moment mixed with the alcohol flowing in her veins, but her eyes get lost in his and their lips collide in a fiery kiss. She can taste the last bit of beer on his lips when she bites his bottom lip, stealing a grunt from him that makes her core throb in desire. Both of his hands cup her face as his tongue slips into her mouth to move in sync with hers.
“Take me to your place,” she whimpers against his lips, pulling on his belt so that their crotches collide.
─── ° • ❀ ───
“Have you seen Charlie?” Marcus asks Abby as he pours himself a drink.
“Last time I saw her, she was with Harry,” she answers, grabbing a few cans of beer in her hands.
His heart tightens at the mention of this name. Harry was Charlie's first boyfriend and her first heartbreak. Marcus clearly remembers the day he picked her up in crumbs after they decided to break up because Harry was going to Indiana to play quarterback for the University of Notre Dame. Marcus never really liked him; Harry had always had a reputation for sleeping with girls and wasn't the type to have girlfriends. It surprised everyone in school the day he arrived hand in hand with Charlie. She was the first girl to win his heart. Six years younger than him, she had him wrapped around her finger for two years.
“Do you know where they are?” he tries to look unaffected by the whole thing.
“Someone said they left together,” Brodie shrugs, taking a sip of his beer, not noticing the way Marcus' face drops.
─── ° • ❀ ───
As soon as they reach Harry’s room, his lips meet hers while he waste no time to sit her on his old school desk. Her fingers lace across his hips, pulling him close to get the friction she is desperate for. Her hands find their place at the back of his neck while he grabs the bottom of her black hoodie, peeling it off her body in no time and does the same thing with her jeans. Charlie starts to grind on his crotch, moaning silently at the feeling of his hard on.
“Fuck… you’re…so hot...” his jaw goes sharp in hunger as he takes a look at her perfect boobs squeezed in a forest green lace bra. She almost rips his shirt off when she pulls the black clothing from him, biting her bottom at the sight of his toned chest. His lips are reddened and swollen from the kiss, hair messy like she loves. Her hands roam his chest, feeling his abs tense under her touch. She squeeze her legs around his hips, sending him a clear message of her intentions.
“Eager, ma’am?” he teases her, slowly unzipping his belt until his erection is only contained in his briefs. He presses his hard on against her core, rubbing himself up and down. The whimpers leaving Charlie’s parted lips are like music to his ears as his lips suck the sensitive skin of her neck. “Fuck, I’ve missed this…” she moans, tugging at the roots of his hair while his mouth works wonder on her neck.
In one harsh motion, he lays her down on his bed, hovering above her until his lips crash against hers. His hand slides down into her underwear, running two of his fingers up her slit. She groans when his fingers graze her clit, slowly circling the bundle of nerves.
“Please… I want you,” she begs, her hands grabbing his biceps.
“Say it again,” he demands, applying more pressure on her clit until she starts to squirm under him.
“I want you,” she cries out. “I fucking need you.”
Charlie’s legs spread open on either side of him, he grabs the lace underwear off her body, lifting her legs up in the air as he slides the material off her ankles. Completely naked on his bed, she remembers the first time they did it, how safe she felt with him. She blushes when she notices the way he bites his bottom lips as his gaze travels down her body. He pulls out a silver square foil from his jeans pocket, ripping the corner open.
“You sure about this?” he asks one last time in all seriousness. She nods quickly, lifting herself on her elbows to kiss his plump lips. A smirk curves up his face as he wraps one of her thighs around his waist and throws the other over his shoulder, kissing the ankle bone next to his head. He takes his tip, running it up and down her slit in tease. Holding himself in place, he slowly push his hips forward, a whimper escaping the back of her throat at the so desired feeling. He lets out a heavy exhale when his hips meet the back of her thighs.
“Fuck Charlz...you feel so good,” he cusses in pleasure.
He slowly pulls back and rolls forward, letting her get adjusted to him. She feels lightheaded; she missed this feeling of fulfillment that he had always given her and the way he can be gentle and rough with her at the same time.
“Harry...fuck, harder…” she moans, eager for him to rock his body into hers. He immediately picks up speed, sending a wave of warmth pleasure in her lower stomach. Trembling whines leave her parted lips as he rolls his hips in a perfect rhythm. He had always known what angles and speed felt good for her, he loved to watch her lose control under his touch. Her stomach starts to spin, the familiar warm feeling starting to grow in her lower abdomen.
“Shit, right there!” she cries out, her nails digging into his skin.
“Are you gonna cum for me, pretty girl?” he encourages her, squeezing her hips firmly to the point of leaving a dark red mark. She hums, eyes shut under the pleasure. His hands slide further up her body, meeting her throat where he wraps both hands. The pornographic moan that escapes her lips when he applies pressure around her throat makes his dick twitch.
“You missed being choke, didn’t you?” he whispers darkly, rocking his hips harder to hit the right spot. She whines in response, clenching around him as his grip on her becomes tighter. He crashes his lips on hers, kissing her without slowing down his pace. She digs her hands into his hair, yanking it hard. He moans into the kiss, his hand around her throat tightening.
“You still like it when I pull your hair?” she says in a cocky way, pulling his blond locks harder. She knows he likes to be in control. He grunts into the top of her shoulders, rocking his body roughly into her. He brings his thumb in her mouth, lubricating it with her own saliva before bringing it between their bodies. She gasps at the sudden feeling on her sensitive nerves, whining as he starts to circle it with the pad of his thumb. It doesn’t take long for her to start feeling the familiar feeling of her orgasm. Her jaw drops as she feels the wave of bliss rolling up her body.
“Oh shit!” she screams, her core pulsating around him and her head getting filled with hot air.
“Give it to me, pretty girl,” his raspy voice sends her over the edge and he soon follows, thrusting fast into her as they both ride out their orgasm. His forehead crashes to her chest in total exhaustion, heavy breath leaving his parted lips. They both catch their breath, his hands engulfing her sides. He slowly pulls up and locks his eyes into hers.
