Rules for trucking, motor coaches, transit to be worked out with provinces, territories and industry
Federal Transport Minister Marc Garneau is expanding the required use of face coverings on planes, trains, ships and transit to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
Effective at noon on Thursday, airline flight crew and airport workers will be required to wear non-medical masks, in addition to the existing requirement for passengers.
Railway operators will have to notify passengers to wear a face covering when physical distancing of two metres from others can't be maintained, or as requested by the rail companies.
All railway workers will be required to be given face coverings and ensure they are worn according to risk or when mandated by local authorities.

Why isn't Santa returning Justin Trudeau's texts?
Transport minister Marc Garneau cited new satellite data as the reason for the decision.
Canada has issued a safety notice restricting domestic and foreign commercial Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes from its airspace, following two deadly crashes involving the aircraft in the last five months.
After previously refusing to ground the planes, Canada’s transport minister Marc Garneau reversed course on Wednesday, citing new satellite data received Tuesday night and reviewed Wednesday morning.
Garneau said he had convened an expert panel to consult with aviation industry experts, who provided advice. He said they had reviewed the new data, and also looked at the two MAX 8 crashes in Ethiopia on Sunday and in Indonesia in October. The Ethopia crash left 157 dead, including 18 Canadians. The Indonesia crash took 189 lives. No one survived either crash.

Canadian airlines try to reassure flyers after crash leaves 157 dead
Transport Minister Marc Garneau says it is simply too soon to say what caused a brand-new Ethiopian airliner to crash — and until investigators can pinpoint what caused the deadly incident, dozens of Boeing 737 Max 8 planes will be free to fly in Canada.
Speaking to reporters in Montreal, Garneau said it would be "premature" to ground all 41 of those planes currently owned by Canadian air carriers even though it's the second such deadly crash for a Boeing 737 Max 8 model in less than six months.
When asked about the crash of a similar plane in November 2018, Garneau said Canadian regulators don't want to "jump to conclusions" despite the similarities between the Indonesian and Ethiopian incidents.
