Every year from the Beginning of September to about the end of October these creepies (Marbled Orb-Weaver, Araneus marmoreus) emerge from wherever they hide the other 10 months of the year and weave their thick webs across every door, entry, window...oh hell, at human chest and head height practically ANYWHERE a human will walk. Walking anywhere around here is dangerous for any arachnophobe. They are about the size of a quarter and there will be multiple independent webs within a foot of each other. It's like during their apparent 10 months in hiding they are all secretly planning their attacks on the humans! And a single strand of web is TOUGH! This lovely lady dropped in on me while I was waiting for some assistance during my race today. I'm not too proud to say my heart rate increased a little when I saw this crawling across my chest.
