Erin’s Map of Europe (as drawn from memory)

We were talking about Frozen the movie and I said, “Where are Anna and Elsa from?” She didn’t know. (that’s to be expected. She’s Chinese and five.) “They’re from Norway. Do you know where Norway is?” She shook her head.

I said it in Chinese. Nuó wēi . 挪威。She still didn’t know.

So we drew a map!

This is Erin’s MAP OF EUROPE! as meant to illustrate Norway’s placement relative to other well known Western countries. You’ll notice that if I knew the Chinese name I wrote it (even though she can’t read it). it is also quite obvious that my European geography needs come work since in the middle of my map drawing I realized that there was Denmark and a bunch of other countries whose placement I was unsure of. And then Germany was bigger than I drew it, but I wasn’t exactly sure where Poland and Austria sat even though they’re next to Germany. (right?). And then Eastern Europe is just a blur. As are all the “--via” countries.

But the five year old didn’t care and hopefully now, she kinda knows where Norway is.

I should add that she actually knew how to say England, France and Germany in English. And she was really close on Italy. SMART CHILD.
