Behold, thou art little (2 Nephi 3:25, Lehi to Joseph)Â
In a town you’ve never seen,Â
in a house you’ve never known,Â
a father younger than the oneÂ
who you've loved as you have grownÂ
had sons you know as men,Â
and a dream you know as truth,Â
and commandments that you knowÂ
caused tribulations in your youth.Â
while the waves rocked you to sleep,Â
the rain sliced through the sky,Â
and you heard your mother weepÂ
for one son bound to a mastÂ
and for two with wicked hearts,Â
til God demanded ropes be cutÂ
and He made the storm depart.Â
In a land hard-fought to reach,Â
in a town your family built,Â
with a brother strong and wise,Â
and a father soon to wilt,Â
you and Laman's children playÂ
while their parents mope and glare,Â
and your father says “my son,Â
you'll be safe in Nephi’s care.”Â
In a time that’s not yet come,Â
when you’ve grown in faith and love,Â
when you've lived up to your name,Â
you'll gain power from above.Â
You will learn and know the LordÂ
and be prepared by God’s design.Â
Though for now, you are but little,Â
your potential is divine.Â
