Manipur CM Biren Singh Resigns After 21 Months of Crisis
N Biren Singh stepped down as Manipur's chief minister on Sunday, following a series of internal conflicts within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the looming threat of a no-confidence motion. His resignation comes nearly 21 months after ethnic violence rocked the northeastern state, resulting in over 250 deaths and the displacement of thousands of residents.
Singh submitted his resignation to Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal at 5:30 PM, just a day before the state assembly was set to reconvene for its budget session, which was later canceled.
In his resignation letter, Singh expressed his gratitude to the central government, noting, "It has been an honor to serve the people of Manipur. I am deeply grateful for the timely actions, interventions, and development initiatives that were implemented to safeguard the interests of the people of Manipur
