Manga in our Library
Manga is a Japanese version of a graphic novel. They can be found in our High School library.
These books are formatted differently from books in America. You read them from what we would consider the back cover to the front cover. When a student first picks these up, they often ask why they are printed backward.
Manga has a mature illustration style. Not mature in the vulgar sense, but the illustrations are produced for older readers (not grade school for sure). Some body parts are exaggerated, as is common in this culture.
When I first saw Manga in our library, I was a little uncomfortable because I had never read or been exposed to manga. After some research, reading a couple myself, and discussions with teachers and admin, I am happy to say that manga has been fully embraced in our library.
The students loooooooooooooove these books. My book recommendation box is always full of Manga suggestions. And they actually read them and discuss them.
Our most popular manga books this year were the Blue Lock Series and the One Punch Man series.
