Most Mandalorians have a deep-seated distrust of outsiders. They do not aim to convert most outsiders to their faith, nor do they see most outsiders as worthy of their culture. However the few who share their spirit and values are almost immediately accepted into the fold and warmly welcomed into their culture. How to explain this paradox?
It must be understood that to Mandalorians, it is not a matter of proselytising—which is unheard of in their culture—but a matter of recognising what is already present. Mandalorians believe the Mandalorian soul is already there; it is an indelible quality that one either possesses or does not. It cannot be gained or acquired (although it can be cultivated by walking The Way), therefore it is as useless to attempt to convert another into the Mandalorian faith as it is to teach a fish how to fly.
