Hello! Sorry to bother, but what I've been thinking this over and over: how does one distinguish activated abilities from mana abilities (the latter don't use the stack)? Asking because of treasure tokens, phyrexian altar, etc.Which ones can be "silenced" or "shut down" by other cards, and why?
An activate ability is a mana ability (and thus doesn't use the stack) if it meets the following three criteria:
It doesn't require any targets
It will (or could) add mana to a player's mana pool when it resolves
It's not a loyalty ability
If any of these criteria aren't met, then the ability isn't a mana ability and uses the stack.
