floored by the clip and how raw and upsetting it feels and how lovro can't even sit still and how much it anguishes him and the way he contradicts himself by saying "i'm not even gay" and then "it's my business if i'm gay or not" 20 seconds later

I got to the anchor scene. it is somehow. gayer than advertised despite you having touted it as 'the gayest moment in yugioh' what do you mean it has a callback to the start of the arc and a flashback to volume 1 and yugi and joey both sacrificing themselves for the other and is a culmination of two arcs of slow character growth and relationship building and 'I see you as someone to look up to who has taught me so much and helped shape me into someone I can be proud to be'
(and that's just some of what the scene decides to pull--)
And then on top of that Yugi says 'I love you'.
what. what. what the fuck. truly an accomplishment. thank you Birdie for being the force to introduce me to this mess
you are most certainly welcome. now you begin to understand. HOWWWW DID THEY GET AWAY WITH IT BACK IN . WHAT? 2003??-ISH? listen LISTEN ok there's subtext but then there's just Text.
this is Just Text. i mean
i think it's interesting how in the earlier chapters you can see how shima and ririka had this mentality of us vs. them bc of their past experiences and trauma, as if they were living separately from the ones who were "happy". shima believed this for a long time and it's mentioned several times how he finds himself in a better place now but that makes him feel uncomfortable, bc that's not how it's supposed to be for him. i don't think ririka is entirely to blame for this mentality, even though she was pushy about this as we already know. shima had his own share of relationships with people (starting with his mom) that made him feel disposable if he didn't give them what they wanted from him, so he didn't value himself, and if he doesn't see any worth in himself... how will he even believe he doesn't deserve to feel miserable all the time? shima is always struggling to leave the past behind bc it's difficult for him to believe that he doesn't have to be trapped there anymore, that he deserves to be part of the shimmery world, to be happy.
that's why shima explicitly telling ririka that he doesn't want to be in that self destructive cyle anymore is one of the most important moments for him to me. it's shima genuinely believing that he can be selfish enough to be happy. that's huge.
and i love how it started with small things and it became bigger over time: setting boundaries with his friend, going back to acting, asking mitsumi to hang out at the trip, defending his right to play the role he wanted. now he listens to what he wants. he still can't feel like he completely belongs in "that side", but he wants to stay, so he WILL stay
We'd rather die with beauty... but ya probably wouldn't understand, Nazuna-nii.
Sometimes you think "oh, the neurodivergent vs neurotypical stereotypes are so exaggerated, people are mostly just people" and then you have to listen to your boss bitch about her husband for TWENTY MINUTES because she refused to ask him for help mulching their yard so therefore he didn't know she wanted help and she ended up doing it alone because once again, she refused to ask him for help.
She is angry at him for this.
I wish I were making this up.

Thinking about how, Kanae met a younger, more guarded Douma, and she hit him with the "As long as one is given a chance, a person's soul will open up." too.
