The premiere episode of Star Trek (the original series) was “The Man Trap” (1966). It featured a story about the last alien to survive on the planet M-113. No name was given for the species but it was to become known as the Salt Vampire. The creature needed large quantities of salt to survive. When none was available in its crystal form, the creature would suck the salt from the bodies of unwilling victims. To lull them, it could make itself appear as anyone the victim was thinking about.
