the scene where Ryuko has dinner with the Mankanshokus for the first time is....the cinematography conveyed her distress perfectly.
Whatever this expression is that she pulls almost the entire time, I felt that. I viscerally felt that.
She's in a small unfamiliar room after being badly injured with these noisy and chaotic people shoving down unidentifiable stuff all around her. Meanwhile she herself is unable to say a thing, just sit there visibly distressed and traumatized watching these people eat an unholy amount at an unholy speed. Heck, Mako just yeets Guts out the window like a baseball and calmly sits back down to dinner in just a handful of frames.
That took me a little bit to process what the heck I'd just witnessed after that scene...they certainly conveyed the protagonist's emotion very well with that sequence
