THE SHIPPING, OH GOD THE SHIPPING! (Legend of Korra: Spirit of Competition review)
THERE'S BLOOD EVERYWHERE! WHERE ARE THE FANGIRLS WHEN YOU NEED THEM?!?!?
.....
Anyways.
We're back to a more evenly paced episode from last week's mess, and with it, the show begins to focus on what the writers almost certainly knew would be a hot-topic discussion: How the Fire Ferrets will perform in the actual championship THE MOTHERFUCKING SHIPPING!
Basically, Korra has feelings for Mako, Bolin has feelings for Korra, and Mako has confusing "I kind of like you but I'm with this other girl already" feelings for Korra. After a few successful rounds in the tournament, the love triangle explodes, and the only remaining question is, can the team still perform at their peak despite inter-team conflicts WHO IS KORRA GOING TO PICK?!?!?!!!!11!!?1/1/!?!?!?!!?
Personally, I thought this was an excellent episode. We get lots of character drama to drive the plot, the jokes were some of the best this series has offered thus far (no spoilers, but the scene with Bolin on that balcony was the funniest shit I've seen in a long time), and the series managed to maintain the levity that TLA was known for while still tackling deep, complex issues. This is gonna be one that people remember.
Score: 9/10
