1 cockroach was all it took
kakunoshin_ohta on instagram: "the fit :100:" to which tadasuke responds, "you can use this to pretend you're going on a date to marugame udon with me" (archive. dated to post-test december 09 2025)
i think one of the things that compel me the most about makinohta/the dandelion boys is that they contrast each other in really odd, minor ways. an example of this is how they treat their helmets. i know that doesn't make sense yet but let me elaborate
after they lose out on a victory to one of / the final race. kaku keeps his helmet on to ball up his fists. tadasuke takes it off immediately to rest his head on it.
from round 1 and 2 this year respectively-- lost out majorly compared to their winning teammate? well, they're both marching through the paddock, disappointed. the only difference? kaku's wearing his helmet like armor. tadasuke's holding it firmly in his hand.
and what if they're not disappointed? what if they were the teammate that won? well, the exact same thing happens. tadasuke takes off the helmet near-immediately, ruffles his hair, and gives a shout. kaku wears it all through his silent celebration.
even when the camera panned uncomfortably close to them before / after races that were high-pressure and often devastating, kaku was very good at turning his head to make his visor hide his face. tadasuke was the opposite, often staring dead past or into the camera. i dont have a screenshot of this so youre gonna have to trust me on this one . either way.
i just really like minor stuff like this about them. it's .. cool, it feels like a really cool intentional detail that's not intentional at all, that's just how these two happen to tick.
