This is my go-to camera at the moment, a #NikonD7100, for both stills and video. I've been very selective about the camera bodies I've purchased throughout the years. You can do a lot with any camera these days. They all have pretty amazing sensors and so often it comes down to knowing a cameras limitations and doing your best to use quality glass and have a strong understanding of how to #PaintWithLight. Mastering highlights and shadows is key. I've had a #NikonD300s, and a #CanonT3i prior. Both still kicking. I definitely plan to invest in a camera that can capture a 4K image next but I will make sure it's the right camera for my needs and allows me to continue to work, making a living, be competitive and be creative. This is my #NikonF100. I started my career with this camera. As a photojournalist I mainly shot sports and music photography. It was UW Badgers sporting events and musicians. This was while I was still in Madison, WI. When I moved to LA I switched it up and did headshots, models/fashion as well as sticking with capturing musicians, both live and promo material. I pretty much dropped sports. There was a learning curve when switching but my foundation was solid. This was and still is so important. Having a solid foundation. Now growth, is also imperative. I've worn dog tags for a long time. My name is Major, so the military theme made since. Now, I've also used it as an opportunity to put sayings and quotes on different tags that I might need to reference during the day, during my life. I lost my main pair a long while back and was feeling nostalgic so I got new ones and am going to continue the periodic swapping of tags to keep me motivated. Got a text that said, "Sorry to do this too you last minute but I can't do dinner tonight. I'm so sorry. Maybe next week?!?" Is it weird that I thought, "Cool, now I have more time to clean 😒." LOL, I'm not even mad though. In the last week I've been chipping away, in beast mode, cleaning/organizing my gear and my life, in between jobs. And it's been such a good feeling. Recently updated the resumes, yes plural. I now have almost as many sound credits as I do #DP/CameraOp/AC credits which is so weird to me because I never set out to do sound. I picked up the skill out the necessity. To improve the quality of my own work and to understand that department and the role it plays on set so I could better work and communicate with that member of the production team. From the beginning I've been a #Photographer turned #Cinematographer, #CameraOp, and #AC. I live and breath camera department, painting with light and the "frame". But it took me a while to accept that I am and will continue to be a #SoundRecordist, and love doing it. Don't deny yourself being good at more then one thing. You will sometimes find your second or third skill takes a back see to your main pursuit but know that it's still there and if you commit yourself to excelling at it then you will. #JackOfAllTradesMasterOfJackOfAllTrades #MakingProgressHappen (at Studio City, California)
