Todayās lesson I was a little bit all over the place I wasnāt working at 100% I felt a bit blah. The first thing my teacher asked if I was on grade 2 technical exercises yet? I said no because my arpeggio wasnāt up to scratch last week, his response was gee Iām harsh. My scales this week were a little to sharp even after my teacher pointing it out and giving me a second chance to correct it. He said it wasnāt bad but 1 wasnāt satisfactory so Iāll have to give you these for another week, I agreed he asked for my evaluation and I said my intonation was off which it was odd because I was trying to fix it while playing the scales but it made it worse. Funny thing though my arpeggios were perfectly in tune.
He wanted to do some extensive work on my new piece Concertino in La Minore and asked how much I got through with this piece I said I attempted a very slow run though of the whole piece and then concentrated on the first 2 phrases bar 1 to halfway through bar 30 he asked me to play it through and he will give some feedback. The first thing he said was that he is very pleased with how Iāve done, as Iāve done a good foundation of those piece to build onto I need to start working on articulations and dynamics now and add on the next 2 phrases this week. Iām very happy that I have done the correct thing with this piece itās really fun to learn and I love how dark it sounds.
He also got me to play through cantabile a few times the first run though I was having a lot of right hand bow issues with sound quality, hitting other strings, bow hold, and dynamics not up to scratch he then suggested my second run through to only think about my bow hand and to make sure I was paying attention to all those details. I was a little bit better but he didnāt pass me on the piece as I was still hitting other strings and suggested to work on my string crossings.
Island princess was a hot mess I will still have a while with this piece as it has shifting into 3rd position and itās still a bit tricky to work through that position and make the intonation and tone just right.
Overall good lesson I have quite a lot of stuff to work on but nothing I canāt handle.
