#EndAcidSale and save lives! Acid attacks causes health, social and psychological problems. No one should have to endure this! Find out more: http://bit.ly/endacidsalenow
The kind of pain experienced as a result of an acid attack is unimaginable. Victims face traumatizing after-effects including, but not limited to, peeled skin, loss of eyesight and hearing, exposed bone and cartilage, fatal infections, loss of sensation, amputations, skin replacements and grafts and most of all, the pain of having to live their entire life with severe disfigurement of the face and limbs.
We must come together and end this injustice once and for all. Sign the petition to ban the sale of acid to common people who have no use for it. Acid does not belong in homes, schools and hospitals. There are various alternative and safer methods to clean your homes and it is time to let our Government know that we will no longer accept easy sale of acid.
Come, sign the petition to join our cause. It is more urgent than ever before for our Government to ban over-the-counter sale of acid.

Ads I Love

What a wonderful piece of bold, courageous advertising from an inspirational woman. The juxtaposition of the light tone of the traditional make-up tutorial, with the clear harm that has been caused to Reshna, builds tension to the call for action, which, when it comes, is powerful and direct. The ‘Make Love Not Scars’ campaign slogan is inspirational and upbeat. The advertisment is not a generic call for support or awareness but promotes a clear, positive message and genuine goal; to stop open acid sale, which will make steps towards ending these barbaric atrocities from taking place. The constructive effect that ethical advertising like this can have is something that inspires me hugely.

RAISING AWARENESS WITH BEAUTY TIPS
Online beauty tutorials are nothing new, with thousands flooding YouTube channels, and more often than not being utilised to plug a range of ‘must-have’ cosmetic products.
But 18-year-old Reshma’s video has a far more important message. Her clip begins like many others, going through a range of steps that should be undertaken to create the ‘perfect red lips’. But Reshma is an acid victim, her face severely damaged (including the loss of one eye) when she was attacked by her brother-in-law and two other, unidentified assailants.
After the tutorial Reshma explains what happened to her, but also the shocking fact that in many parts of India it is easier – and often cheaper – to buy deadly acid than it is to buy a tube of lipstick. By subverting the usual format of a rather vacuous online trope Reshma not only presents the factual information of an abhorrent form of violence, but also highlights the specificities of the crime.
The perpetrators are almost always men, more often than not rebuffed suitors or jealous husbands. By using acid they are not only causing intense pain and irrevocable damage to their victim’s health, their are attacking what they perceive to be a woman’s true worth: her appearance.
This incredible video is made in collaboration with Make Love Not Scars, an organisation dedicated to the support of acid victims and also raising awareness and eradicating the stigma attached to such an attack. They also help these women tell their stories and prove that their worth is far beyond what is considered a conventional standard of beauty, and their bravery incomparable.
