So, I've been heavily considering going vegan but I have a few problems, and I would like some advice- My family has very little money, so won't buy specific products just for me (keep in mind I'm 16) and I have literally no money to go buy my own. Also, I lose weight insanely quickly when I don't eat certain products, so I feel like a vegan diet may be dangerous for me. Any suggestions or advice?
First, concerning your money situation, you don’t need to buy speciality vegan items to go vegan. Do they make it easier? Yes. Are they delicious? Absolutely. Are they necessary? No. Basic vegan staples like canned/frozen vegetables and fruits, pasta, oats, beans, rice, and grains are usually pretty cheap. Look through my “vegan on a budget” tag; there’s some resources I’ve reblogged in there (I would link you directly to them but for some reason my menu won’t open on my blog; sorry!) @vegan-under-poverty, @thatpoorveganbitch, and @poorveganeats might also be helpful for you.
Next, concerning your weight situation: you’re 16. Your metabolism is most likely very high, and your body is still going through rapid changes and will continue to do so for several more years, so unless you’re losing so much weight that it’s detrimental to your health, I don’t know if it’s something you really need to worry too much about. That being said, gaining and maintaining weight on a vegan diet is all about getting those vegetable proteins and fats and eating nice, big portions. Good sources of proteins and fats are beans, lentils, broccoli, peas, nut butters, avocado, chickpeas, hemp seeds, and spinach. There are also vegan protein powders, like pea powder, you can use in addition to these to help supplement.
Keep in mind that I'm not a nutrition specialist, but I hope this was helpful to you. I wish you the best of luck!
