strider-manpainĀ replied to your postĀ āSo okā¦whats the deal w discord, whatāre the pros/consā
Generally the only con is that there's no video chat. It's very frequently updated so usually if there are a issues they're resolved quickly. Gifs and YouTube videos can be viewed inside of the chat client. There are separate channels for group chats, in case you want to keep topics separate or something, same thing with voice channels. Full emoji keyboard plus commands for emoji such as :eyes:, and custom emojis.

Not sure how good the blocking system is. Custom username colors in-chat, ability to set roles and nicknames, bots that do stuff like play music in specific voice channels, text to speech using /tts command

I find it pretty useful for group chats--I can mute channels, entire servers, specific parts of servers, mute anything that isn't an @me, or mute everything, which keeps me sane, since skype kept blowing up my phone every time someone spammed a reaction gif. it also has a nice dark theme so it's not an eyestrain. I don't have a lot of people I hit up individually but for those I do, it also works fine for one-on-one chatting.
Hmmmmmm okay :o that seems like a lot of pros, esp compared to skype...Iāll have to consider setting up an account sometime, maybe even attempt to do the chat thing again someday..

switch to Discord instead! it's got all the functionality of Skype, but it's not jammed full of ads and broken features.
Iāve heard some good stuff about Discord lately, so I might check it out. Iāll keep skype around for my current skype peeps, but maybe itās time to Upgrade
you can absolutely freeze tofu, but note that if you freeze it in water, it will come out with a crumbly, bread-like texture in the end. on the bright side, you can marinate it afterward! if you drain it first and slice it and freeze it in freezer bags or some other freezer-safe container, it shouldn't change the texture as much, and should last for months, barring repeated thawing and re-freezing.
thatās what I figured, I donāt really care about texture and flavor if Iām eating something thatās been in my freezer, I just want to know itās not gonna kill me, which I figure it probably wonāt.Ā

messages like that rile me up on two levels⦠one, that they assume it is somehow empowering to depict a woman performing āfemininityā in an unsafe setting, as if her natural state of being must be to desire the makeup and the bangles and the affectation, and secondly, that they have obviously never listened to anyone in my positionāthat of NOT performing 'femininityā adequately in a professional setting and getting a lot of backblow for not meeting those expectations.
Sigh yeah I think itās aĀ ādamned if you do, damned if you donātā situation with the latter...it seems like thereās a v narrow path between too-feminine and not-feminine-enough thatās consideredĀ āprofessionalā (and even smaller for theĀ ācompetent and masterfulā zone). I can understand frustration on both ends, but at this point we donāt need to rewrite femininity, but attitudes about it (eg itās obviously not women that are the problem--we need to broaden that zone, not try to reframe either side of it). Thereās way too much emphasis on how femininityĀ āshouldā be represented and not nearly enough about how there should be enough representation to accommodate a variety of different professions and uniforms and expressions of femininity (or lack thereof! Women in their own skin are still women!)Ā
So like, the "let women wear their hair downā message is a worthy one, but I think overwriting Rosie the Riveter, an engineering/mechanic/factory-worker powerhouse, is not the way to do it, and I think trying to do that does kind of gloss over the many women working in those fields (and elsewhere). Thereās something to be said about making room for new icons...and personally, I would love femininity in professional settings to be explored to include the fashionably stylish AS WELL AS older women and larger women and women of color and women with disabilities and women with quirks. BasicallyĀ āfemininity in the workplaceā seems to be code for pin-ups and sexy halloween costumes and we need to kind of branch out into a wider range of representation that includes both soft/performative femininity AND the many OTHER varieties of femininity while respecting professionalism and its related areas competency, mastery, proficiency, and respectability for whatever field represented

I am so sorry you had one of these too. I assume there's a cave somewhere that they shamble out of, fully formed, ready to make someone's life more difficult.
The mental image of finding this cave and bricking up the entrance is going to carry me through the weekend.
magpiebridge answered your question āDoes anyone know any text adventure, point and click, or otherwise...ā
not personally but this is a thing I've looked for and http://www.gameenglish.com/ brought up some simple possibilities! This is something I'm interested to know as an EFL/ESL teacher, too.
This is helpful! Ā Iāll try out some of the games. Ā If I find anything else that seems useful or promising, I can post about those too, in case youāre interested!
not yet, junior!
