Bird Question

Has anyone else ever seen magpies and peewees (magpie-larks) hang out together?

In my area, there are a couple of magpie-larks that seem to hang out with a family of magpies. The magpies seem quite happy to share with them and the peewees seem to be sticking close to the magpies.

Birds are pretty social but I was under the impression that magpies and peewees prefer to defend their territory?

Is it possible the magpie couple has adopted the peewee couple while raising their own young? There is one young/juvenile magpie. The larks look to be adults but perhaps they look like babies to big magpies?

Otherwise I suppose they could be simply forming a larger group to defend from something like crows or water birds from the river.

Or just friend, I really don’t know. Insight would be appreciated. It’s hard to find info about interaction because of the similar name interfering with search terms and such.
